Eats – A Weekend with Friends in NYC

I went up to NYC last weekend to attend one of my best friend Liz’s bridal shower and visit Max. The weekend was full of incredible eats that I hope you enjoy experiencing through my pictures and get to try the next time you are in the big apple.

At One Lucky Duck with Max, enjoying the best salads in NYC.
Spicy sesame salad at One Lucky Duck close up. It had shredded cabbage, beets, jicama, daikon, cashew sesame crunch, wasabi aioli, cilantro, sesame dressing.
Sushi Roll at One Lucky Duck. Marinated shiitake, avocado, asparagus, red pepper, jicama rice, and nama shoyu.
The best raw dessert I’ve ever put in my mouth. Max and I shared the “classic sundae” at One Lucky Duck which had vanilla and chocolate ice creams, chocolate and cherry framboise sauces, sliced bananas, candied almonds, and vanilla cream.
Exploring the Whole Foods with Max led to some interesting finds. Neither of us thought this was appetizing. I really hate fake meat.
Morning breakfast takeout at One Lucky Duck, a coconut yogurt parfait with buckwheat, hempseed & dried fruit granola and fresh blueberries.
The mexican platter at one of NYC’s oldest and most infamous raw food cafes. This was a raw corn and flax tostada and tortilla filled with jalapeños, cashew “sour cream” guacamole and lettuce. The enchilada sauce on the side was to die for.
Midafternoon stroll in the West Village with the girls led to this. Luckily this hazelnut gelato was free of additives.
If I lived in Brooklyn, I’d could probably go here everyday. Sun In Bloom is a must try – it’s not as far from the city as you would think
Tempeh Reuben at Sun In Bloom.
Raw chocolate expresso layer cake at Sun In Bloom. OMG.
Bella Devine Salad at SIB – Sultry Smooth Avocado, Dulse and House Made Raw Sauerkraut Tossed in a Kale Salad Massaged in LIVE Sesame Ginger Dressing. And one of my favorite salads ever.
Max and I visited with the owner of Sun In Bloom. She has quite an incredible story of how this magical place got started.
I talked Max into getting the pancakes for our second dessert (after the expresso cake). He said he’d only have a bite, but I had to fight him off with my fork. That’s how good these were!
Grapefruit from the Union Square Farmer’s Market one morning.
Enjoyed the “Spicy Greens” juice from One Lucky Duck in a taxi on the way to the Bridal Shower.
A beautiful bridal luncheon with lots of champagne & mimosas.
Here with Liz, about to enjoy a cupcake from the famous Baby Cakes Bakery.
Do you ever get meal envy, when a friend orders something better than you? This looked amazing! A vegetable dish I wish I had got at Eataly’s Le Verdure (The Vegetarian Restaurant) for dinner one night. From the menu – VERDURE ALLA PIASTRA – A SELECTION OF WARM VEGETABLES AND FARRO SALAD IN A NEBBIOLO VINAIGRETTE
Crisp and delicious local crudités at Eataly for an appetizer
Are you tired of seeing food from One Lucky Duck yet? This was “Sarma’s Favorite Green Shake.” I’ve already recreated it and will be sharing the recipe soon!
Nothing but ooooooooo’s and ahhhhhhh’s at the Natural Science Museum one afternoon with the girls. Liz is the best tour guide!
Had to get another Spicy Sesame Salad from One Lucky Duck for the plane ride home.
Crazy storms delayed my flight, thank goodness I had these raw cinnamon cookies made with almonds & maple syrup from One Lucky Duck to keep me preoccupied 🙂 They were absolutely decadent!

  1. I am hungry (now) & jealous all at the same time, what a great food trip!!! Yummy – will def. be visiting all of these places the next time I get a chance to get to NY!! Thanks for the great post/sharing!

    1. Thanks Lisa! I can’t wait for the wedding in August to experience this all over again 🙂

  2. Thanks for the recs on some new places to try! What was the name of the Mexican restaurant? That looks amazing. Thanks!

  3. So, I started following the owner of sun in bloom on instagram because she is friends with a friend of mine from IIN. The first picture of hers that I clicked on we’re the pancakes she shared with you and Max… I couldn’t believe it!!! Small world 🙂

  4. Thank you for the amazing weekend and yummy vegan cupcakes! The ‘classic sundae’ from One Lucky Duck looks AMAZING, but you know me and my sweet tooth. You still have to check out Juice Generation and Core Fusion with me next time you’re in town.

  5. I just found your blog this week and have spent hours looking through all the older posts and learning as much as I can! One of my favorite sections is your “everyday eats”, it has really made me more excited to start eating even healthier! I have been transitioning my husband and I to a healthier lifestyle, but whenever I start making changes he’s always hungry! Would is be possible to share an everyday eats of what your husband eats throughout the day? Thanks for all your hard work, inspiration, and information 🙂

  6. I followed your restaurant recommendations in NYC. I have to say the Sarma Smoothie was amaaaazing! I was afraid of green juices (they taste so vegetably) but this one was so delicious. I think I had it every morning. Some restaurants were good and some were ok since I’m not a fan of seitan or tofu dishes …but then again I think I am spoiled with Christopher’s Kitchen around the corner of my house in Palm Beach Gardens. If you ever make a trip down here, please try it. Sooo good 🙂
