You Won’t Believe Where Silly Putty Is Hiding In Your Food

You won’t believe where silly putty is hiding in your food. Find out on the latest episode of Food Babe TV and don’t miss the details below:

Watch Now:

Dimethylpolysiloxane 101 (a.k.a. Silly Putty)

Dimethylpolysiloxane is commonly used in vinegary-smelling silicone caulks, adhesives, and aquarium sealants, a component in silicone grease and other silicone based lubricants, as well as in defoaming agents, mold release agents, damping fluids, heat transfer fluids, polishes, cosmetics, hair conditioners AND IN OUR FOOD!

There have been no major studies conducted on the safety of dimethylpolysiloxane in food by the FDA or the Food Industry since it was approved in 1998, but the food industry is allowed to use it in anything they want (except milk). Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwiches, McDonalds French Fries, KFC Mash Potatoes and Biscuits, Taco Bell Cinnamon Twists, Five Guys French Fries, Dominos Bread Sticks, and on and on – the list of guilty restaurants is mind-blowing.

Companies Using Dimethylpolysiloxane

Dimethylpolysiloxane Can Contain Formaldehyde

The FDA allows dimethylpolysiloxane to be preserved by several different chemicals that don’t have to be listed on the label either, including formaldehyde! Formaldehyde is one of the most highly toxic substances on earth. It is linked to allergies, brain damage, cancer, and auto-immune disorders. See chart below directly from US Code Of Federal Regulation:

Formaldehyde

Dimethylpolysiloxane is commonly used as a filler fluid in breast implants, however this substance has started to be phased out due to safety concerns. If this substance is considered to be a hazardous ingredient when it’s placed inside our bodies, it makes you wonder, how can the FDA allow us to eat it?

American Companies Exploiting Us Once Again

When I compared the ingredient list of McDonald’s french fries in the US vs. the UK version, I was floored to witness the drastic differences. Europeans do not use dimethylpolysiloxane. Look closely at the ingredients in McDonald’s french fries below. Do you see how the french fries in the U.K. version are basically just potatoes, vegetable oil, a little sugar and salt? How can McDonald’s make french fries with such an uncomplicated list of ingredients all over Europe, but not over here? Why do McDonald’s french fries in the U.S. have to have an “anti-foaming” agent? Do the brits like extra foam? No, they don’t, Europe actually regulates this ingredient because they know this man-made chemical was never intended to be consumed by humans. This whole time McDonalds has known about this and chooses to continue to serve it’s US citizens silly putty.

A Secret Ingredient In Fountain Drinks

When I drank soft drinks as a teenager, I always wondered how and why fountain drinks tasted better. My friends and I would go on and on about this and say to each other “fountain drinks are the best!” and hit up the local gas station to get our fix. Thank god those days are over.

FountainDrinks

During my research, I found out that fountain drinks have a totally different formula than their bottled counterparts found on store shelves. Dimethylpolysiloxane is found in Diet Coke, Dr. Pepper, Sprite, Fanta and other countless fountain drinks. The food industry doesn’t want you to know about the differences either. Coca-Cola was sued for being misleading to consumers and not disclosing that Diet Coke has two different artificial sweeteners in the fountain version vs. one in the bottle version. I wonder if there will be another lawsuit regarding this ingredient!? How many people do you think actually know that silly putty is in their Sprite?

Diet Coke Ingredients

We all know drinking soft drinks is not good for us, but does Chipotle, who prides themselves as a pioneer for better quality in the food industry, know they are feeding silly putty to their consumers by serving a wide variety of fountain sodas at their establishments? Chipotle recently phase out GMOs from their restaurant food by next year, but in order to do this, are they planning to remove their Coca-Cola fountain drinks too? I am pretty sure this isn’t part of the original plan. Maybe being associated with silly putty and formaldehyde will finally give Chipotle the nudge to switch over to drinks without GMOs and chemicals. It’s crazy, that even the companies that are trying to make a difference, are still pulling these dirty secret industry tricks in our food right under our noses.

Restaurant Cheap Shortcuts

Many fast food and causal restaurants use a butter substitute product called “Phase Oil”. You may have never heard of this substance, but I can almost guarantee you have eaten it. My husband first introduced it to me, when he said his cook at his fraternity house used it to cook all of their meals. (College kids, listen up!). Needless to say it was horrifying finding this out after looking up the ingredients.

Ingredients in Phase Oil: Partially Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Salt, Soy Lecithin, Natural and Artificial Flavor, Beta Carotene, TBHQ, Citric Acid, Dimethylpolysiloxane

When I saw “Phase Oil” on this list of ingredients Dominos uses, I called them up to ask why. The headquarters wouldn’t tell me and asked me to leave an inquiry. I ain’t got time for that, so I went straight to the source and visited a local Dominos to ask. I found out Dominos uses Phase Oil in their Cheesy Bread Sticks, instead of real butter – yum!

PhaseOilFoodBabe

It’s important to note, most restaurants don’t use this to intentionally harm us, they use it to cut costs. And this point hits the nail on the head. Using dimethylpolysiloxane is another cheap industry ingredient to make big profits for the food industry and does nothing to keep our health in check (especially with formaldehyde as a potential preservative!).

How many more people have to die from disease and how much more are we going to pay as a nation for health care until the FDA wakes up and starts regulating our food?

Don’t let the food industry trick you with this rubbery substance. Next time you see your family or friends eating and drinking the popular products discussed in this post and video – ask them:

“Do You Eat Silly Putty?”

Many of the fast food restaurants are required to post their ingredients online. Check em’ before you eat out. And remember to ask your server what oil your food is being cooked in and request it be cooked dry, with coconut oil (if they have it), 100% olive oil, or real butter.

Please spread this information and share this video… no one should be eating silly putty!

Till next time…

  1. More evidence and reasons why my family chooses to eat at home! Terrible! Sometimes I wonder if the government wants to decrease the American population with what they approve to feed us!

    1. Actually I think the opposite- they want us sicker because that’s where the MONEY is- There is MONEY in sickness, not in HEALTH. can you imagine if there were no more CANCER?? what in the world would happen to all the cancer hospitals/Doctors? pharmaceuticals/chemos? on and on and on…Agriculture in this country does not coincide with HEALTH it- is absolutely about the dollar bill. I will admit that up until this past year…I had NO clue what was going on. I’m not a stupid person, but just never had a clue until i got sick and tired of being sick, fat and tired and all of my family dying YOUNG from CANCERS. then I found Food Babe, Kris Carr, Dr.Greger…and I have been watching every documentary i can get my hands on. Now that I am paying attention- I’m Outraged !! (I’m also 15 pounds lighter though…yay me!) 🙂

      1. I couldn’t agree more Debbie! Either way, it is a sick system (which is why I choose to put my hope and faith in Christ who saves me!), but we do our best to educate ourselves and others and make the best choice we can 🙂 Your story is similar to mine and probably many who start living life more naturally. I make my son’s diaper paste, make body lotion or use coconut oil, etc. The list goes on! Once you begin reading ingredients it is disgusting what you find. Check out my story… http://www.lovelifenaturally.org/my-journey-to-all-natural-living-my-story/

      3. I completely agree! It all comes down to corporate greed. There is big money to be made in making Americans sick. The FDA, Monsanto, and health care industry are basically getting rich off of poisoning the US food supply.

      4. Good for you! Get all the polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) oils out of your diet (soy, corn, canola, safflower, sunflower, etc.). Use only coconut oil, pure olive oil, and grass fed butter. Preferably all should be organic.

    2. And are you sure you’re not buying foods containing Silly Putty? As FB already said, it’s used in many products, although mostly for restaurants and fast-food chains. It’s even used in cosmetics and *SHOCK* over-the-counter drugs/medicines, as an anti-foaming thingie. Also interesting, it’s also a silicone component so ladies, if you’ve done a size-up, you are carrying it 24/7…
It’s also in your skin moistener…

      1. Wim Ten Brink, There are toxic Chemical lurking everywhere! Make your own cleaning agents, lotions, soaps, etc. Then you know what the ingredients are 🙂 Women take in the MOST toxins due the their cosmetic use. We all need to read the ingredients of not only food, but everything we put on our bodies. Skin is our largest organ 😉

    3. Dear Loving Life Naturally, the answer to your question as to whether the US Government is trying to reduce the population, please read the conclusion of the White Pages Report on Over Population from the APA presented to out-going president Jimmy Carter. In there is such a plan which the APA stated that the US Population needed to be reduced by 30% by the year 2000. Jimmy Carter accepted that report and stated that it was to be a policy or a program that the US Government would adopt and operate on. The APA’s suggested method of mass murder of the American people? Deny medical assistance in emergencies. It didn’t limit the other methods that are available. Just noted that this method would be an easy one to slip by people. And Obama “care” has a Czar meting out the “care”. A Czar cannot be challenged…how about that?

      1. In the last 40 years we have 55 million people that were not born because of legal abortion. How’s that for population control?

      2. I don’t think this has much to do with the government population control. If we are dead on unborn, how do we make the big corporations money? The only way they win if they can make food that will keep us barely alive, then they can provide medication. Large corporations control food, water, medication and the government. They don’t really care about the people at all. Over population is not an issue for them. That’s what they want. lots of dumb, uneducated, ignorant people…

    4. Hi,
I have been wondering the same about the government wanting to decrease
the American population with the food they feed us wouldn’t surprise me a bit
I don’t eat out either I don’t trust any of the food you eat out.

    5. I WHOLEHEARTEDLY AGREE WITH YOU ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT TRYING TO REDUCE THE POPULATION BY NOT-DISCLOSING AND ALLOWING ALL THIS CRAP SOLD AS FOOD. WHY ELSE WOULD THEY ALLOW GMO’s in the USA BUT NOT IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES?
      WHY?

      1. DID YOU EVER SEE THE MOVIE WITH CHARLTON HESTON, SOYLENT GREEN?

IT WAS A 70’S MOVIE ABOUT THE FUTURE WITHOUT REAL FOOD.

PERHAPS EUGENICS! IF THE GOVERNMENT KNOWS THAT FAKE FOOD IS UNHEALTHY, THEN WHY NOT SIMPLY MAKE IT LAW TO CHANGE HOW THE FOOD IS GROWN AND PRODUCED. THEY HAVE SUCH LAWS IN OTHER COUNTRIES. AND YET WE COMPLAIN ABOUT DIABETES, HEART DISEASE, OBESITY,BUT IT IS THE VERY NATURE OF THE FOODS THAT WE EAT AND ARE UNAWARE OF THE DANGERS OF EATING SUCH TAINTED FOODS.
WE AT THE VERY LEAST NEED FOOD LABELING LAWS!

    6. These are the same wingnuts who scream bloody murder about affordable healthcare and abortion all the while allowing us to get sick and die eating fast foods that they refuse to regulate.

      1. Who are you talking about? I believe that the pro-choicers and those who back the ACA are usually the same ones who vote for more regulation. I don’t understand…corporate greed is what causes this, not the government. The right-to-lifers are usually the ones who side with unfettered capitalism and are AGAINST regulation.

  2. Oh My goodness!! I’ve been calling my kids in to watch these with me whenever you post them, just so they understand where I’m coming from when I tell them, “No, we can’t eat that!”

We’ve all laughed at how ridiculous the videos are, but they make the point, how even more FAR RIDICULOUS, the FDA is for allowing all these strange, toxic substances in our food supply!!

Thank you for taking the time to do your investigations and posting these silly, but informative videos!

    1. You are welcome – We want them to be family friendly and entertaining, so they are easy to consume. I’m so happy it’s hitting hard.

      1. I’ve also been sharing these videos and other posts from Food Babe with my 9 ad 7 year olds as well, they think the videos are great! My son actually said can we move to Europe b/c how come the government there cares about their people?

  3. Thanks so much for all of this information you are putting out there. Many of us know certain foods is not good (ie fast food) but really do not know why…Its worse than I thought.

  4. With cellulose and now silly putty, maybe we might as well be grocery shopping at Home Depot.

Keep up the investigating, Vani — if there are other such ingredients [gulp] I want to know about them!

    1. Ted – I’ve got a lot more up my sleeve (unfortunately!). Grocery shopping at Home Depot – haha!

  5. This is disgusting and obscene. The canola oil alone was enough so I never ate McDonalds fries but those other ingredients are just unbelievable for a french fry. How does money always override any conscience of the Big Food companies to slowly poison us? It’s just sick.

  6. Food Babe,
Eek! I haven’t had a soft drink in years but many friends and family members live off of it. I can’t wait to show them this post. Thank you once again for informing us, I would do all the research myself, but ain’t nobody got time for that 😉

    Xo,
    Kathleen

  7. I just realised an excellent correlation between the FDA and what Steve Jobs used to call people he didn’t particularly like: f%#*ing d%#*less a–holes. It’s not a particularly nice comparison, but it is definitely true!

  8. I wish Foodbabe TV was on major tv networks. I was in a meeting today ( all of us are in healthcare and have advanced degrees ) and I mentioned avoiding GMO’s, foods with chemicals, etc and no one knew what GMO’s were. They looked at me as if I were speaking a foreign language. Thank you for trying to spread the word and educating those who will listen 🙂

  9. My 10 year old loves you and your videos! She even went with me Saturday night to a raw, vegan potluck and snarfed down a bowl of zuccini spaghetti. As soon as she heard you on my computer, she stopped doing her homework and said, “this is why I don’t eat fast food!” Now, if I could get my teenage sons to pay attention.

  10. I keep thinking about how my town is building a Chick-Fil-A and I KNOW my coworkers will flock to it!!! I swear, “health” has to become your HOBBY these days to stay on top of things!

  11. This is a great resource for the American public but I’m wondering if you know of a resource for us Canadians? You have valuable information for sure, and I’d like to make sure it’s relevant for us Canucks before sharing. 🙂

      1. Wow, thanks Ange! Wild info! So it’s not in McDonald’s fries in Canada, but in pretty much every commercial jam or jelly going. Yikes!

  12. Thanks for all your hard to work to uncover what’s in our food. We, too, swore off soft drinks a long time ago along with many of the other products you highlight. In regards to Chipotle, at least the one nearest me, doesn’t sell fountain drinks at all. Only Izze in a bottle, Nantucket juices, and beer…oh and water. Thank goodness for that!

Keep up the good work! We need your voice.

  13. I think that it’s just ignorance and pressure. Doctors don’t get nutritional training so is a politition or cook or a nurse. People who want to live a healthy life need to make better choices. Fresh clean food is a good start. I mean how can your body repair or fight illness if you feed it processed cooked empty food? What so hard about buying and eating fresh food that you can see was growing or living yesterday or frozen food that still looks identifiable.

  14. Food Babe,
I love you and your site and all the information that you provide!! Please note, you should never cook anything in olive oil as when it is heated it becomes unhealthful. Coconut or walnut are much better choices if you are heating any food.
    Thank you!

    1. Maureen – I know this, but most restaurants don’t have coconut oil or walnut oil available, and olive oil is a hell of a lot better than the alternative.

      1. I spent almost twenty years in the restaurant industry including fine dining and I can tell you that when you ask for olive oil these days, 90% of the time you will get “canolive” oil which is a blend of mostly canola and some olive oil blended. With food and labor costs rising, they have to make cuts. I just don’t eat out at conventional restaurants much anymore.

      2. Michi – great point and it’s why I said 100%! If they don’t have it, you probably shouldn’t be eating there in the first place 🙂

      3. Having seen a person go into emergency allergic reaction to walnuts (at a party for Navy guys and spouses, 75 dollars per person), I wouldn’t recommend that peanut oil or tree nut oils become a new standard. Then again, my cousin has a daughter with so many food allergies that she can’t eat at Any restaurants, nor eat foods at school parties, and probably the cafeteria as well.

  15. Please – Please. If you would add a print button to your pages I would be so happy. As it is now when you try to right click and print, usually url’s show up all over the article, making it not readable.

    Thank You.

  16. Thank you for the great updates. Your fun banter while giving valid information is a great way for me to share some of the important, yet rampant, “ugliness” in our world of food that most do not want to know about. Keep it up!

  17. And to think I used to make fun of the kid that ate Play-doh back in preschool! Wow.

  18. Damn food companies…….yukkk!! seriously.

Thanks Vani for sharing this….I don’t think I would have ever done this. Looks like old methods of cooking at home and packing food is going to be viral real soon…………

  19. No words. We know it’s not healthy but that would have been the item I would buy if in a situation.
The bouncing of the fries was hilarious.

  20. Five guys uses peanut oil to fry their French fries. You listed that they use the “Phase Oil”.

    1. With all the peanut allergies out there that’s really a poor business decision if that’s the case. I hope it is CLEARLY stated / cautioned.

      1. I believe it is stated. From their website, ”

“Over the past 20 years, peanuts have become part of the Five Guys identity. We by no means want to exclude guests from our store, but at the same time we would not want to disappoint our peanut eating guests. We make sure that we have signage on our doors and in our restaurants about the fact that we serve peanuts in bulk containers as we would never want someone to risk their health by coming into our restaurants.”

      2. Chris, Five Guys posts that information on the door so you see it before you go inside. It is also posted inside the restaurant.

      3. Thank you, Holly and Lisa. It’s refreshing to know that they are so upfront with that information . . . given, it’s probably more for their own protection. It’s a bit of a personal issue with me as my dad has lived with an extreme peanut allergy his whole life, one that could potentially kill him. We had some good scares growing up, one in particular where he came home from a business lunch unable to breathe because his food was cooked with peanut oil. He had asked the waitress before ordering and she likely told him what he wanted to hear to make the sale. Fortunately he had his EpiPen with him, but it wasn’t enough. Checking on the man every 10 minutes, prepared to call an ambulance at a moments notice leaves an impression on a child. He’s learned, as I’m sure most with a severe allergy have, to be proactive about it and will call a restaurant ahead of time and speak with management to obtain information. Because of all the changes in the last two decades, there are some things you just don’t expect to have to ask about, fries being one of those, so I was just surprised to learn that someone out there is still using peanut oil . . . BUT not as surprised as I was to learn that I’ve been eating Silly Putty! 😉

  21. Thanks heaps, I love your investigations 🙂 I wonder if this is the same in Australia? Is there anyway you can find this out? I’ve noticed you mention United Kingdom.
    Thanks

    1. hey Fiona – I wondered the same thing about Canada. Found a link to the Canadian McD’s ingredient disclosure (found it ref’d on the Wikipedia page for dimethylsiloxane), and a quick look under Fries:
“cooked in vegetable oil [canola oil, corn oil, soybean oil, hydrogenated soybean oil (THBQ),citric acid, dimethylpolysiloxane].”
(I just included the spectrum of gmo oil options for colour 😉
The AU McD’s website should have a link.

      1. Thanks Heidi,
That’s a great idea. I did check both McD’s & Subway. I typed in dimethylsiloxane on the McD’s site, but nothing came up. I did eventually find the ingredients in everything. I could not find dimethylsilixone, but, to be expected, the list of food additives & preservatives was endless! the did say GMO corn & other things. I am so glad that I do not to go to these fast food places!

Oh, Subway, once again, did show up as having dimethylsiloxane, but once again, the food additives & preservatives list was full on too! The only things safe to eat is the carrot, cucumber, capsicum, lettuce & onion!

KFC is not very forth coming on their site at all. They have not provided list of ingredients!

I did do search on dimethylsiloxane in foods in Australia, and it looks like is disguised as this:- 900 Poly dimethylsiloxane “emulsifier, antifoaming agent, anti- caking agent)”.

Once again, I am so glad I don’t eat at these places. I’ve shown my family, but for some strange reason, they’re still happy do eat at these places??? Go figure!???

  22. Five guys fries are never frozen and they are fried in peanut oil. How are they using this stuff on their fries? Is it to keep them from turning brown before their used?

Dimethylsiloxane is commonly used in vinegary-smelling silicone caulks, adhesives, and aquarium sealants, a component in silicone grease and other silicone based lubricants, as well as in defoaming agents, mold release agents, damping fluids, heat transfer fluids, polishes, cosmetics, hair conditioners AND IN OUR FOOD!

There have been no major studies conducted on the safety of dimethylsiloxane in food by the FDA or the Food Industry since it was approved in 1998, but the food industry is allowed to use it in anything they want (except milk). Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwiches, McDonalds French Fries, KFC Mash Potatoes and Biscuits, Taco Bell Cinnamon Twists, Five Guys French Fries, Dominos Bread Sticks, and on and on – the list of gulity restaurants is mind-blowing.

    1. I have a picture of the box of Peanut Oil that says “contains anti-foaming agent – dimethylsiloxane” – straight from Five Guys. Sorry!

  23. You mention Subway in your article. That is the only one of the businesses you talk about that I sometimes frequent. Where and how do they use this chemical?
Thanks for all you do. I’m new to your posts; love them.

    1. If you are new to her website, I would definitely do a search on her site for “subway” as she did a complete investigation of that business. After I found out what was in their bread, I will never go there again. EVER.

  24. Hi Vani,

I’ve shared you with my hubby…AHEM What I mean to say is, I share your video’s with my hubs. I am amazed at how you are able to get him to see exactly what it is I have been telling him for so many years. For the most part, he did listen ‘most’….okay… ‘some’ of the time….lol
    NOW he gets it!
I want to thank you for the time it takes to research, as well as your dedication, devotion, passion and humor to get the WORD out there in the big ole world of naivety and ignorance (I don’t mean any disrespect to any human beings)
I share all of your posts and all the info with my clients (I am a personal trainer).

Thank you from me for doing the research I just don’t have the time to do any longer.

  25. I think you are at the forefront of a coming revolution, Vani! That is the first I’ve heard of Phase. Is that the same strange substance I see short order cooks ladling on the grill before the homefries?

  26. What exactly is the FDA’s role when it comes to food safety for the citizens. I have come to believe all this is happening for profit. Big food and Big Pharma, not enough to kill you just enough to make you unhealthy. Then they can treat the symptoms and never address the causes. Thanks for informing us as we are better prepared to spread the truth’s behind all the greed.

  27. Hi Vani,

Thanks for this info, I’ve been following your blog for a while now. I’m from Australia, and we have Coca-Cola etc on our shelves here too, I wonder if these have the same ingredients as the GMO & ‘silly putty’ crap you are discussing here. As in, I’m wondering if Australia allows this stuff in here with such nasty ingredients? I’m guessing the answer is yes, and that it is not differentiated between
countries. Ewwww. I don’t drink soft drink, but did as a child. That is just shameful that spineless
people can have such a greedy and horrific
mentality to allow such nasty ingredients in
something we consume. And for what? Profit! The
world is slowly taking a shift back to basics as people are becoming more aware and voting with their dollars. Don’t give your money to giant corporations like these that have been getting away with things like this. Keep up the great work Vani aka Foodbabe!

  28. Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate the work you do. These new video additions are fantastic!!! They are quirky and informative and I post them on my FB hoping my family and friends will be intrigued and start educating themselves. I like that the videos are straight to the point and short enough they won’t tune out but then followed up with more detailed information. I think it is easier for the newbie to digest.

I like the above post mentioning that she showed these to her daughter. I have 4 little ones I am trying to protect and I think I’ll start showing these to my oldest (6) so she understands better why she has never (and never will) eaten McDonalds or why she will never have a school lunch or the same prepackaged lunches her peers have.

Again, thank you for all you do!! Huge Fan!!

  29. Thank you, Food Babe, for exposing these unhealthy additives in US food. This is exactly why I prepare my own food and avoid eating out or buying prepackaged groceries. We cannot depend on our government to police the food industry; they have too much influence.

  30. Food Babe,

I just wanted to write and tell you that I truly appreciate all the time and effort you go to, to inform us on food. I am new to clean eating and each week I learn something new from you that blows me away. I share your website with everyone as I think it is important for people to know your research. Thanks again

    Jenn

  31. Please take a look at this article ,
    http://www.mindbodygreen.com/0-10998/the-sour-facts-about-milk-what-every-parent-needs-to-know.html
I appreciate and agree with your opinions on GMO’s but I still believe you should consider the dangers of dairy. I know it is especially hard for women to quit cheese. But the” milk builds strong bones” is just a marketing campaign. It actually causes bone loss. Please do some research , I am not just making this stuff up , thanks .

  32. Thank you so much for all you do. I only eat real food by choice and because all the artificial stuff and preservatives give me severe migraines. I am so tired of hearing about all the ways this junk is hidden in our food. I rarely eat at restaurants because I get sick almost every time.

  33. I eat at Chick-fil-A Restaurant quite often. Please tell me what product they put this in. Is it in the oil they use, their chicken or their buns, or in their French fries? Please tell me what they use this in.
Also, do they use any of these bad things at In and Out Burger? How about the Olive Garden? Do they use any of these bad things.
    Thanks,
    Sandy

    1. I am almost positive they use it at In and Out and Olive Garden. I would call just to be sure. As far as Chick-fil-A – it’s in french fries, chicken sandwiches, and nuggets. They list their ingredients online, so you can check your standard order and find out!

  34. Wow, after watching “Super Size Me” and seeing this post, I’m quite certain McDonald’s french fries aren’t “real” food at all.

  35. Where are the sources for all of your claims? Like Five Guys French fries? Is it in the oil they use? They cut their potatoes and soak in water then fry in peanut oil, where did you see this chemical listed as an ingredient?

    1. Jennifer – I have the a picture of the box of Peanut Oil in my possession, would you like me to send it to you?

      1. No thank you. I’m a health inspector. I’ll check it out next time I’m doing their inspection.

  36. Vani, you touched on something here that needs more research: the ingredients allowed in food that do NOT have to be disclosed on the label (such as formaldehyde). I know there are thousands, many of which I am certain are toxic. Have you investigated this?

You are performing such a valuable service and are doing it in such a way that really hits home, naming foods that most folks commonly eat and believe are safe. Thank you!

  37. We have a nation of people with nformation at their fingertips about not only
silly putty at the Golden Arches, but a host of other foods we eat as. “Comfort Foods,.”
My interpretation of Comfort Foods are those that will end you up in a cold
    and cozy grave.
On top of foods we are WI FI ing our bodies to death and the GOV gives
    us no warnings.
Thanks for this video..it makes me cringe.

  38. Mc Donalds hasn’t owned Chipotle for many years, do your research.

This is yet another example of otherwise good info presented in a misleading and alarmist fashion. Dimethylsiloxane does not CONTAIN Formaldehyde, its often accompanied by it. Dimethylsiloxane is part of silly putty and in some food (no I’m still not going to eat it) but the fact that the blogger can’t be bothered to present the facts in an honest manner so she looks like she’s really discovered something that someone couldn’t read the ingredient label to figure out is pathetic.

  39. Ironically, I was eating McDonald’s french fries as I was watching this. I like science, so I decided to give it a go at my table. Nope, no bounce. Not even if I throw it on my table as hard as I can. If you’re TRYING to make it bounce, it will, if the velocity is high enough. So…I’m not believing this yet.
Excuse me while I clean off what is now mashed potatoes off of my table.

  40. I was wondering about McDonalds policy in Moscow (Russia) also there’s a new flagship Krispy Kreme just opened in town – ‘delicious’, but are those tasty donuts dangerous?
    Take care yaw’ll 😉
    Eric!

  41. Let’s put some freshly squeezed orange juice into our cars with gasoline. Same difference.

  42. Its truly shocking the differences between the fries in the UK and US. I only eat ‘clean’ but it horrifies me the extra ingredients the Americans put in their food. Lost for words……

  43. Thanks for researching and sharing information. Many of us have learned from our own limited experiences that the food we eat affects our daily lives in a huge way and your information can allow us to make better choices. I appreciate that and hope you will continue to post frequently.

  44. I guess I find it funny that the same government that you would believe is in conspiracy against you is the one who certifies your “good” foods “USDA Organic.” Could someone hand me another Diet Coke, please?

  45. This makes me so sad that this is happening in America!!!
Why are we allowing this and why would the FDA want this for their people? Its a real shame.
