It Was All An Accident… Thank You For The Experience Life Magazine Cover

If you’ve heard my story before you know that I didn’t set out to be an activist in the food movement. It was all an accident. Growing up a very sick child, developing unconventional habits to help me break free from this over-processed world and the persistence of my friends who asked me to start this blog is what led to where I am today. I never thought I would quit my full-time job as a corporate consultant to do what I am doing today. I am an accidental activist. No one trained me on how to get the attention of the largest corporations in the world, how to handle the media interviews and the publicity necessary for spreading the message or how to handle the people who are trying to disparage me from moving forward.

So when Experience Life Magazine contacted me and said they wanted to put me on the cover of their magazine, I didn’t quite know what to expect. They flew me out to Los Angeles and spent an entire day with me from morning until night. I was actually kinda dreading the whole day, since getting my picture taken by strangers is not one of my favorite things to do! When I walked into the studio, my worries vanished, and I knew I was going to be all right. All I could think was “this is all for me?” The positive energy of the whole entire Experience Life team was contagious. A personal stylist was ready with a whole wardrobe of outfits to choose from, my hair & makeup was done by celebrity hollywood artists and a nice selection of healthy snacks were available! It was one of the most fun days of my life and a day I’ll never forget.

I can’t thank Experience Life enough for believing in me, this mission and for allowing me the honor to be on their cover of the October issue.

During the photo shoot, they also filmed a “Behind the Scenes” video. During the interview, I broke down crying (which they thankfully at my request edited out, although you can still see my red eyes). Sometimes it can be so hard to talk about my personal story. In this video, I also talk about what I am most proud of – you!

Xo,

Vani

  1. My best friend is a breast cancer survivor and we began the clean eating journey 3 years ago! I have learned so much from ur newsletters and share every new piece of info with my family and friends! Keep up the fight, so grateful to have found you!:)

  2. Wow!! Congratulations 🙂 LOVED the video and so glad you shared that… REALLY well done! Knowing this magazine is highlighting you in their issue makes me want to go check them out now, lol. Didn’t even know about them before–

Appreciate you helping to lead this fight!

  3. I have been a subscriber for years, and this issue was how I learned about you! I don’t know how I didn’t find out about you sooner, but am making my way through your posts and am finding a lot of inspiration. Thanks!

  4. I love you Food Babe! I believe God lead me to your web site. I subscribed immediately because I knew what you were sharing was truthful.
My husband is 100% Italian and was raised on Italian foods including a a lot of sugar deserts and pastries. Diabetes and obesity is rampant in his family so unlike my upbringing there was no mention of portion control, exercise and vitamins. My mother read prevention magazine way back in the 60′ & 70’s. MyMother lived to be 90 and my father is alive and well on no medications at the age of 98.
My husband is in his mid 50’s and has never exercised a day in his life. Yes he does physical work but as the Dr said you can’t count it as exercise because with work comes stress.
He quite smoking almost three yrs ago and since has cut unhealthy things one by one from his life.
I introduced him to you Food Babe and now he will say guess what Food Babe told me today!!!!!
He follows your articles and has subscribed to your emails. He has joined a gym and loves working out. He is slowly being set free!
That is what it feels like, “being set free”.
Your hard work is being blessed because it is growing beyond what you ever expected and we thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!
Thank you for your part in setting us free!

    1. Yeah he probably didn’t realize that here in the United States there aren’t as many natural activities (i.e., farm work) available. In Italy they can afford to eat like that because Italy has acres and acres of farms to be worked on and so they get plenty of exercise in Italy working on all their farms.

  5. Congratulations, Vani!! What an exciting experience. This is the kind of thing that strengthens your resolve to push forward knowing that you are making headway. Go get’em, girl, Patty

  6. My 8 year was so inspired to see your pretty face in the cover of the magazine – you became more than this behind the scenes person mom keeps reading and talking about!

  7. Vani,
Congratulations! What a beautiful cover shoot! And I must admit, I teared up a little watching your interview – please keep doing what you are doing – the world needs more people like you! Thank you!

  8. Vani,

Any way to get Amazon to remove all the negative reviews posted by the trolls paid by the Food companies and Big Ag??

  9. I’m very annoyed that the comments on the actual Youtube video are all negative hateful comments towards Vani. Can we please go on there and bring the tone up a bit?? How terrible. What a world we live in, to be hateful towards someone trying to bring good. Don’t let them get you down Vani, you’re doing an amazing job.

  10. You look absolutely beautiful!! I can’t wait to read the article. Thank you for being an inspiration and congratulations!!!!! Xoxo

  11. Vani, you are doing some amazing things!! You have helped me open my eyes to all the processed junk out there and have definitely inspired me throughout my healthy living journey!! Keep going and keep inspiring!! xoxo Jamie

  12. Where can you buy the October issue. (Greensboro NC) Don’t want to subscribe yet. Even if I did I probably would not get the October issue.

      1. I looked at Barnes and Noble just yesterday. Worker there said he mails old issues back to get money. I drove all the way there just for the acticle and left disappointed.

  13. Vani, you radiate health now. How can anyone dispute that? Keep up the good fight for us. We have a right to know what is in the food we buy!

  14. Thanks for all your great work, I am constantly sending information to different friends and family.

  15. thank you so much your work Vani! You are so incredibly inspiring and you have given me such great guidance and food wisdom. thank you for following your heart and changing the world!

  16. This is awesome! I am new-ish to your blog. But.. this is what it has already done. It has closed the knowledge gap between vastly different generations in my family. I live in a combined household with family members in their 60’s. My husband and I are both in our Late 20’s. The difference in age dictates a very different outlook on food. I presented this blog to my other family members and it instantly changed their views. Even though we have been talking about these topics for years!! We can now live a cohesive lifestyle as a family with the same attitude about what is good food and what is bad food because of the way you present information about the ingredients in food. The video above has made me info a forever fan. What a great way to convey your passion about this site. Thank you Vani!!!

  17. Wow, clicked through to the Amazon link for the magazine and somebody has been plastering the reviews with 1 star very negative reviews since putting the Food Babe on the cover. I don’t think Big Food and Big Pharma approved!

Intend to subscribe just to support them.

    Thanks Food Babe!

  18. Wow so interesting, I never knew “your” story. I totally teared up watching that. Thank you for all you do and for all you bring into the world.

  19. You are an amazing inspiration to us all Vani!! Thank you for fighting for all of us who care about our health and the health of our precious children!!! I can’t thank you enough:)))

  20. Wow, that actually made me cry! Thanks for being a great teacher, example, leader and activist!

  21. Vani, many of us relate to your story of growing up on junk food and suffering for it. For me, it was debilitating allergies, fatigue, and (later) achy joints. I hated going to school too because I was always tired and miserable. Thank you for sharing your story and continuing to inspire others that they can improve their health. Also, keep keeping it ‘real’ like you did in the interview. 🙂

  22. WOW! Congratulations! Van! I love following you and sharing your research and accomplishments to all my friends and family. You are in the forefront for all of us who care so much about healthy living and healthy eating. Thank you so much.

  23. What a great picture of you! Glad to see that good things are happening to you as i am sure it’s not always easy taking on the “big guys”! Well deserved! Keep educating us please!!!

  24. Love you so much! “Thank you” just doesn’t seem enough to tell you how much I appreciate your continuing efforts in this ongoing battle against the food corporations who continue to poison us & take our $. You are a very brave & beautiful person.

  25. You deserve all the success and notice you get. Your investigations have changed the way I think about food and how I eat and feed my family. And educate my students.

  26. Dear Vani,

  31. Vani, I have been a follower of your blog for quite a while now and am my own personal activist at heart. Also been a subscriber to Experience Life (my fav mag btw) for many many years. So imagine the thrilling surprise to see you on the cover! Many congrats to you, you’re simply amazing!! You live the life I dream of and inspire me to keep at it.

I am not as diligent as you are…yet, but I am on the path, and you inspire me with each and every blog. Thank you so much for all that you teach us. Blessings to you & may you continue on your journey. Your Food Babe Army is right behind you. We owe you so much.

    Kind regards,

  34. Hi, Vani,

    Congratulations!

I love the way you turned things around in your live to live a healthy life. You are very intelligent and very pretty too. I love all the information you provide me with. Thank you so much for everything you do for us!

  35. Wow! Went to Amazon to subscribe to the magazine and there are 85 1-star reviews. 84 of which are from Sept. 23, 2014 through now! When did the issue with you on the cover come out? Most have similar wording, as well. Looks like a very organized smear campaign.
