What I Used To Look Like Before The Food Babe Way

A couple of months ago, My mom came by and dropped off a lot of stuff from my old room. She’s been waiting years for me to clean it out and finally she just did it herself (sorry and thank you Mom!). While I was putting up some of the boxes in my storage closet, I came across my old debate trophies, lots of fun notes I used to pass in class with my girlfriends and old pictures. When I was looking through the pictures, my jaw dropped open. I have changed so much from that time and tears started rolling down my face. Memories of the way I used to feel flooded over me. When I showed these pictures to my husband, he couldn’t believe it either – he’s never seen me that way. I didn’t meet him until after I started looking and feeling better. I know many of you wonder where I get my intense passion from, so today I’m going to share those pictures with you in my new The Food Babe Way book trailer video.

My hope is that these pictures inspire you to make the health change you’ve been wanting to make for yourself. For most of my life I lived in what felt like a foreign body – the food and chemicals I was eating were not serving my health, my weight, or my beauty. I suffered a myriad of health issues that kept me on several prescription drugs just to cope – now I’m on zero. I truly look older in these pictures, while I was over a decade younger!

I never thought sharing old pictures would bring up so much emotion. This video is serious and intense but explains the reality we live in. There’s only one person you can trust.

  1. I would just like to thank you, Vani! You have done so many wonderful things by sharing your story!

  2. Vani,

Loved this video. It’s sad what is manufactured as food & all the chemicals that are used. I do eat real food & know I still need to make more changes. I will be getting your book this month & look forward to learning more.
    Thanks, Sandy

  3. YES. Thank you Vani for opening our eyes. Can’t wait to get your new book! Keep up the great work.

  4. Thank you Vani for your courage and for your help! I actually started this journey myself then I found you and your help has been awesome. In the last year I am down 51 lbs. Blood sugar down to normal levels and I now exercise daily and eat healthy. I will be 62 this month and the only thing I want for my birthday is your book! Cannot wait! Again thanks and keep your army marching!

  5. just pre-ordered your book. and can’t wait to share it.
If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have known.

  6. Vani, You are a GREAT inspiration to me and many more people like me who are constantly striving(sometimes succeeding and other times feeling defeated) to eat right. Thank you so much for your energy and passion that you put into your work, never EVER give up the fight because although you may never meet the majority of us I can assure you that you do have the “Food Babe Army” behind you! Love you and thank you so much for sharing the pictures! May God bless you!

  7. Vani, you should be so proud of yourself. Congratulations on all your success. Your #foodbabearmy wouldn’t be here without you 🙂

  8. You go Vani!!!!! You are such an inspiration to people — telling them to STAND UP and stop being FORCE FED this unhealthy food and allowing our government to get away with it! I love reading your posts. Thank you so much for everything you’ve done to shed light on this important issue.

  9. hi it’s Justice from High school. haha hahaha you are famous! I got cancer and turned down everything surgery and radiation in favor of food changes 5 years ago…
keep up the good work. I got lots of crap from the medical community for being a nurse and doing this. keep on keeping on! I was going to say, I don’t recall you looking like you do now! you look gorgeous!!

  10. It’s PepsiCo not Pepsi. PepsiCo owns 22 $1B brands…. Pepsi is just the soda…. So you’re not being accurate when you target Pepsi the soda. You should say PepsiCo.

    1. Really? This is all you have to contribute to the discussion? While, technically, you are correct, I don’t know that this distinction really means much to anyone….especially in the context of this discussion. Don’t be so focused on the minutia that you miss the entire essence of the message.

  11. Love it (and you!). I used to be 417 lbs and took daily shots of insulin. No more!!! My husband asked why I preordered 5 copies of your book and I told him that I had to pay it forward and share my success. Your book comes out on my 50th birthday! I feel so healthy and young that I’m actually having my 2/10 birthday at Chuck E Cheese in Charleston! I’ll be thinking of you in NYC! ❤️

  12. Good on you!! You are a wonderfully driven and courageous woman. So happy you are following your heart and educating so many to make healthy choices for themselves. Keep up the great work! You are giving individuals the gift of health and vitality. Blessings to you, Vani.

  13. Vani!
Thank you for sharing your old pictures in your book trailer. I loved the trailer by the way! But I mainly wanted to comment to show you support for sharing something so personal.
Honestly, I’ve always wanted to know what you looked like when you said you were overweight & unhealthy. But I completely understood if you never shared, because it’s such a personal thing. I have pictures from a similar time in my life I would never want to share with anyone who didn’t know me back then.
You are very brave. Thank you for EVERYTHING that you do, and i cannot wait for your book!

    1. Kim – thank you so much for recognizing this! I am still so nervous and freaked out about it – not sure if that will ever change. I just hope it inspires others that they don’t have to live in this world sick, tired and overweight.

      1. Vani, the pictures serve to validate your position on food, additives and the food industry. They show that you practice what you preach, with truly awesome results. Your ‘before’ pictures are inspiring proof that you mean what you say, and better health is possible with better food. I am wowed by your wellness changes!

  14. Wow! Vani, you’re beautiful inside and out. Your transformation is inspiring. I believe that everybody can achieve health and beauty-there are no ugly people! -starting from the inside out. Thank you for your activism and for speaking out!

  15. So hyped to buy your book!! After dropping 40lbs the last 3 years, this is my year for even more healthy changes & you are one of my favourite inspirations for sure!!!!!

  16. I am a private chef, and I totally believe in what you do. I have been researching all of this for years as well, then someone turned me on to your site! It’s great to know you have been fighting for this too. You look fantastic!
You are now my go to source for information. Thank you! I will continue to spread the word, and keep cooking healthy choices for my clients!

  17. Vani, you are the best! It was such an honor to meet you in Baltimore back in September and to have one-on-one time with you. Thank you for the 6 lessons you taught me about how to GO FOR IT! Just pre-ordered your book to put in our company’s wellness library! 🙂 Thanks for all the work you do and for persisting no matter what. Haters gonna hate! Keep making things happen anyway.

  18. Hi Vani, this is a great video and sharing these pictures must have brought up much emotion for sure. You’re a great inspiration for so many people around the world. Sending hugs from Europe (where the food industry also has a lot of “imagination”).
    Anne

  19. Best trailer I have ever seen. Tastefully done. I especially like “… This is America, baby!” Perfect sarcasm. Good luck in your book launch and good luck to the rest of us in our fight.

  20. May you be blessed a hundred fold for all the good you are doing for the people of our world. Who says one person can’t make a difference?!! Your beginning “snowflake of caring has become a gigantic Avalanche of healthy changes!! I hope your wisdom, ideals & passion continue to add to that Avalanche until even the huge corporations are either forced to put people before money or get squashed! Thank you for renewing my faith in mankind. Can’t wait for my books to come!

  21. Courageous of you to post such personal stuff, but in addition, the video is terrific. Please, keep them coming. Nothing reaches people like moving pictures, especially with you in them. Shukria, ji.

  22. Nice work. Let’s keep expecting what we need. Not allowing what the corporations want to give us!

  23. Way to go Vani! Don’t give up! We’re all behind you and I am personally so thankful and grateful for you! You have been put on this Earth for such a time as this. Don’t worry about being bullied….it’s the way of the world. But you’re/we’re different! And it’s GREAT! Thank you for sharing!

  24. I love that you shared those pictures Vani! It takes a lot of courage and deeply shows the impact changing your foods can have on your body. Thank you for all your work!

  25. Brilliant ! Vani it’s so inspiring how passionate you are about what you put into & onto your body. Our bodies are temples and should be treated royally. I am completely grateful for the work that you do, targeting awfully horrible companies, who steal from people and make societies sick. Keep the politics strong on this one . Keep making appearances on TV and everywhere in USA. I think you should reach out to schools all over the country. You could give talks on this stuff and presentations to middle schoolers & high schoolers. I think your book must be required reading (alongside other important books, I.e. Michael Pollan & Kat James books). I think this basic stuff should be made available to all children growing up in America. If the American corporations don’t stop poisoning us, the best we can do is educate the masses and the especially young. Thank you for everything you do.

  26. extremely proud of you!! Van you deserve the world to thank you for the hardest job you have chosen! amazing strong woman!

  27. I never (ever) post comments, but I have to thank you for everything you’re doing, Vani. It is so awesome that you’re willing and not afraid to fight for us!

  28. Vani, you’re awesome, inside and out. Thank you for all your efforts to get us healthy and keep us that way, despite the Agribiz and fast food company efforts to undermine our diet.

I’ll be buying the book, too!

  29. I love your work! Thank you for doing what you do. Is it possible to change your Wikipedia page? Whoever wrote it seems to be trying to portray you in a negative light.

  30. You ROCK!! Thank you for being you and all you do!! You have taught me so much. I thought I knew good food and labels but I have learned so much from you. Keep on!!

  31. You “go girl!!” Keep on doing what you are doing. I teach about healthy nutrition to my elementary school students. I would love to join your crusade once I retire. (in the near future) Please let me know what I can do to “speak out.”

  32. Thanks for finally showing your pre-babe pictures in this trailer. Many people on these blogs question your integrity, your motivation and why you are so passionate about this. They see an attractive woman and they just assume they’re getting taken again. Those pre-babe pictures say it all. Keep up the great work!

  33. Yay, Vani!!!
Thank you for all the research you’ve done to help us live healthier lives!
    Lots of love,
    Cheryl

  34. Hey Vani, I’ve been following you from the very beginning of foodbabe.com, but this is the first comment I’ve ever left. I just want you to know you changed my life, and as a result my husband’s life. Now we have a baby and I’m so excited that he gets to eat “The Food Babe Way” from the very beginning of his life! I think he will be the first human to live to 150! I love what you do girl and I’d love to help you any time in any way I can. Need another employee???
