I saw your article on carcinogen in Blue Diamond almond milk products, and showed contents on container to the staff at Whole Foods in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. I also gave them your website. I expect that they will follow up with you and BD. WF corporate will respond to issues such as this. If WF is convinced it would have national implications for BD. I suggest you do same with your local HF as they are structured with regional offices that control what products are on shelves locally.
Peace.

I really appreciate all the information you provide on your website! It’s nice to get some straightforward information somewhere these days! I’m shopping around for a fish oil supplement, but I’m realizing that it is harder than I expected. Many quality brands include “natural flavors” or xylitol. No thank you! One brand that looks good is Green Pastures (http://www.greenpasture.org) but I was wondering if you take fish oil and, if so, what brand you use?
Thanks again!
Kate
I was wondering if maybe you could do a post on the different options for sugar. It seems there are a multitude of products boasting their own health claims, but I am wondering if there really is any stock to it. Are rapadura and sucanut better for you than regular sugar? Do you use either of these subsitutes? Thanks so much! Love what you do!
I love reading your articles and feel empowered sending them onto others. I saw this today in the Chicago Tribune and thought that you would be interested. http://www.chicagotribune.com/health/chi-popcorn-lung-suit-20120920,0,663423.story
Keep up the great work!
Just stumbled across your blog and I love it! Thanks for all of the information
Hey FoodBabe!
Thanks for all the product info! I would love a section for household cleaners and I’m interested to see what you use in your house.
Thanks for being an inspiration and resource to my change!

As a California volunteer for Yes on Prop 37 I thank you for your support. Please stay current as an example: The No on 37 have raised 40 million but your recent post on Prop 37 indicated they have contributed about 23 million to defeat Prop 37.
First and foremost, I love your blog. Thank you for doing the investigating and sharing what you find. What this country has allowed for our food….and what they are continuing to do to (rawr!!) only encourages me to get my own garden back in order. Second, I do have a shopping question– do you have a list of things you purchase at Trader Joe’s on your website. Where I live, it’s the ONLY semi organic/whole foods store. And I mean the ONLY one. Everything else is wal-mart, target, vons, foodmaxx, and winco. I am a major label reader, but am new to what some of the ingredients are. Basically, if I don’t know what it is, I won’t even bother buying it. But more recently, my education on canola oil (OMG!), MSG, and a few other items brought me in search of your blog.
Thanks!
Hi there.
I just recently found your site and found you on FB. I try to feed my family as little processed food as possible. (Although it’s very difficult with time and budget contraints.)
I would like to learn more about GMO’s. It seems like they are every where. Just when you think you are eating well, turns out your produce isn’t even clean.
What’s a good resouce to find out more on this topic? And what can you do to avoid GMO’s? If we can’t afford organic, are we out of luck?
Any help/advise you could provide would be GRATELY appreciated!!
hey there! if you have a smart phone, try downloading the free app FOODUCATE. It uses the camera and scans barcodes and will tell you everything you need to know!
I would just like to know what your educational credentials are when I read all this advice given. Is this advice from some one who understands the strengths and weaknesses of certain types of studies and understand if the result has actually been proven by the study.Or are you someone who believes the studies whose outcome you like and, that supports your agenda.

Hi Bonnie,
I was delighted to hear about your site on Charlotte Today this morning!
You are an amazing woman, and I admire how you took charge of your health.
I am dealing with breast cancer now, and a week ago I began my healthy journey by joining BeyondDiet.com. I have learned so much this past week, as well as unlearning ways of eating that I thought were healthy. There is so much misinformation out there. Anyway, I am delighted to have your blog to help me learn to eat clean and take care of my health on a whole new level. I also wanted to tell you I applaude your efforts to educate Chick-Fil-a, that’s so awesome, however for political reasons I no longer support them. Hopefully your efforts will spread to other establishments. I love, love, love the Halloween tangerines- great idea! Keep up the wonderful message of health! Karen
I’m at a loss, do you know where I can find raw, unpasteurized, grass fed milk and cheese in charlotte? Thanks!
Go to the Peach Stand! It is about a 20 minute drive depending on where you live in Charlotte but definitely worth it because they carry Milky Way Farm’s raw milk.
Hi,
I am on a plan that I eat veggies, some dairy & meat with everything. Do you know if a smoothie I can drink? I am a working mom if 4 and need something on the go without compromising for the typical smoothie. I eat protein but not protein powders. Any advice if suggestions?
Thank you!!!!
Patty
Best smoothie by far http://foodbabe.com/2011/11/02/the-hari-shake-a-poem/
I have a question regarding juicers. I only have need for one kind, and I think some of the ones you have listed on here are out of my price range. Do you have a recommendation? Also, do you ever use food processors? I’m considering getting one of those as well and would love any advice you might have. Love your site-thanks for all the work you do to help educate me and everyone else!
I have had my Jack La Lane juicer for over 5 years now still works as great as the day I got it. I found it at Costco at a better savings than if I would have ordered it off the TV. I also have a ninja I use for making my smoothies and nut milks. works great. I too cannot afford a lot of money but what do what you can to invest in your health.
you can use a Nutribullet. it does not remove the fiber. if you buy it at Bed Bath & Beyond use their 20 per cent off cupon for the best price!!!
I wonder if Jimmy Johns is really as fresh and wholesome as they proclaim… looks like I have some investigating of my own to do. *sigh – can anyone serve up wholesome, honest-to-goodness, real food anymore?
Most of those sandwich shops are using breads, meats and cheeses with additives and chemicals. If you look at foodbabes recipes you can find some great alternatives. The burritos are awesome and you can make them ahead of time. The onigiri is great if you invest in the kit you have a great sandwich and much better for you.
I know that natural flavors are not good. But, as I was eating my Full Circle Golden Flax cereal this morning I noticed it says “natural flavors (including peanuts and almonds).” How do you feel about the Full Circle organic brand and are the natural flavors they put in bad, too?
Hi Tiffany. I have following foodbabe.com for sometime and she is spreading the joy of healthy choices some of us take for granted. Please check the link I have provided for your organic cereal review http://cornucopia.org/cereal-scorecard/
Hi FB, I have just watched your video and I think it is wonderful to have someone like you reaching out to our youth about the food not only they eat but what is processed into it and where it comes form. I hope to someday be able to shake you hand for your victories. I wanted to get your opinion on oil-pulling. I am doing it for the first time today and thought I would share with your fellow followers what it is all about.
http://eatalkalinefoods.com/top-10-benefits-of-oil-pulling/
Thanks alot for your commitment! I can’t wait to show my girlfriend your site.
Foodbabe, You Rock!
Hi FoodBabe, I was just wondering if you saw Dr. Oz’s recent article for TIME magazine called “Give (Frozen) Peas A Chance. And Carrots Too”? It was the cover feature, called What to Eat Now: The Anti-Food-Snob Diet, for the magazine’s most recent issue (December 3)…Not sure how I feel about the article, especially his column-wise comparison of the nutrition of supermarket foods vs. organic foods, and would love to hear your thoughts…
Hi Foodbabe! I found your site through “100 days of real food”, and I enjoy everything you post. I just finished reading an article in Time magazine called “What to Eat Now – the Anti-Food Snob Diet” and I was appalled! The information was completely misleading when they compared the nutritional content of mainstream food industry products to organic products (or as he called them, “gourmet products”) The title alone indicates that those of us who do not want to eat chemicals are “food snobs!” Guess who the article was written by?….Dr. Oz! Perhaps this article was restitution to the food industry for his episode on GMO’s . I guess the threatening letter from Bruce Chassy worked. Check out the article for yourself, it will amuse you! From one proud “food snob” to another……you rock!
Hello Food Babe!
Thank you for providing a wonderful blog with such important information about food and beauty products! I’ve been interested in trying the Seitenbacher strawberry alligators but cannot find a list of ingredients. Do you have the ingredients handy? Thanks again! I look forward to your future posts!!!

Two things I’ve been struggling with Vani – Birth Control Pills (LoEstrin24Fe) and Humira (for my psoriasis). I know that I definitely don’t want to be pregnant and I (used to) have terrible periods/cramping – hence why I’m on birth control. But, with all the junk ‘they’ put in Flu Shots, immunizations, drugs (in general), I’m looking for alternatives. I have a feeling that condoms are also not a very good idea considering the spermicide et al. What are your opinions/suggestions for a healthy contraceptive?
And, as for my skin, I’m hoping that with my wellness efforts (removing processed foods from my diet and exercising) the psoriasis will subside and I will be able to come off of Humira. I mean, anyone can read the warnings on just about every medicine there is and find some awful side effects, and Humira is no exception. But, it was my overall emotional health regarding the way I feel about my body and how others viewed it that was the tipping point to beginning Humira as a psoriasis treatment. Now, mostly flake-free, I’m almost regreting the decision because of how much yuck ‘they’ put in this drug to make it work. I know you’ve cleaned up your insides and out and that has made a world of difference – I’m hoping it will do the same for me. I’ve tried the natural regimens for psoriasis and have been unsuccessful – but probably more because I couldn’t afford the treatment (where now I only pay $5/month because insurance & rebate cards are picking up the rest) and I wasn’t consistent in using the products. I’m really just trying to get “on-board” with my new eating habits and definitely don’t want them to stop there – I want to live in a country that cares for each other…honestly and safely.
Have you tried any of the non-hormonal birth control options? If you’re sure you don’t want to get pregnant, there is the Copper IUD. If you’re uncomfortable with the idea of an IUD there is the diaphragm.
Regarding your psoriasis, I just recently read about “oil-pulling” to help with ailments. But I want to disclose that I haven’t tried it and that you should research it to see if it might work for you.
Hope this information helps!
Try 100% organic sex:
http://www.1flesh.org
The methods they talk about will not only help with pregnancy spacing but also crazy cycles. Have an open mind and get rid of the status quo in contraception, just like the Food Babe does with food!
i was wondering if you have any recommendations for a facial moisturizer with sunscreen? everything seems to have too much “junk” in it.
thanks!
First let me just say, you have totally changed how I look at food. I can’t thank you enough!
I have recently come across ProBar products, and was wondering if you had any thoughts? They are organic, but I am learning that does not always make them a good choice. I am only 22 and my friends live a traditional college lifestyle when it comes to food. So I try to keep some kind of bar or snack in my bag so if we are on campus and they want to eat I have a ‘real food’ option.
I’m so happy to have food you through Facebook!
Today I made your “Food Babe’s Ravishing Red Juice”. It was wonderful! Even my husband loved it. My question is, have you tried to put the ingredients into a Vitamix instead of a juicer? The reason I ask is that a Vitamix is just soooo much easier to clean. I would imagine you would have to add some water to get everything blended properly.
Hi!
I heard a presentation by Melaleuca last night. Do you know anything about this company? They claim to use all natural products that are good for the environment, but I saw a lot of ingredients….
I thought of you right away and thought maybe you could help me out.
Keep on fighting the good fight!!! It’s worth it!!
Hi Food Babe! I’m a big fan of your website, and I am working on the transition into a healthier diet. However, as a senior in college, although I can cook my own food I am feeding only myself. I am really struggling with letting fresh food go to waste because I have to buy larger portions that could feed 2 or more people. I try my best to figure out my weekly meals ahead of time so I can use leftovers, but when there is only 1 person involved it gets tough. Sometimes I only have time to cook one nice dinner for myself per week, so I wouldn’t be using leftovers until a week later. Furthermore, I do not have a large budget for grocery shopping. Having an article with some tips for college students or young/broke adults living on their own would be wonderful.
Keep up the great work!
Have you tried freezing your leftovers? That way you don’t have any fresh veggies go to waste and a quick dinner when you need it! Look-up “tips for freezing leftovers”.
Hi Food Babe, what is your opinion of clairisonic brushes for your face?
Kinney County in south Texas is classified as a “food desert” by the USDA because its residents have to travel 32-42 miles to have a complete selection of fruits and vegetables. Read about how they’re getting organic produce to their community here:

Inspiring! Where there’s a will there’s a way, right?!
Hi there! I just wanted you to know that I love your blog and you are such an inspiration! I have a couple of questions for you as I am trying to make better food choices in our home. For the area in which I live, my only options for purchasing good quality meat is grocery store organic or local farm raised non-organic grass and grain fed (non grass finished) beef. Which one would be a better option? I have the option in the fall to purchase a portion of a cow that is all organic but that will be a while wait. Also, I mainly buy the Safeway brand O Organic for our organic needs because it is affordable for our budget. But on the same side, it’s so affordable sometimes I wonder if it can be trusted? How do I know if it’s truly organic? If something is marked USDA Certified Organic, do you trust the brand no matter the brand? I thought you would be a good person to turn to for these questions because I know you like to do your research on companies. Last question, I may have to put my daughter on a low-salicylic diet and she wouldn’t be able to consume olive or coconut oils while on the diet which are the only two oils I use. What is the next best one? There is so much debate. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you so much for all the hard work you put into this blog!
Hi food babe –
I am super excited that I just came across your blog. It’s ah-mazing! I have been up and down over the past several years with living clean (organic and natural). I just graduated from nursing school so trying to find the balance in what the “textbooks” say verses truth has been interesting to say the least. Anyway, I am so excited to kick-the-crap for the last time and start fresh again! The food, for me, is a no brainer, but the beauty products is the thing I find hardest to give up… what kind of makeup products do you recommend?
Thanks so much for the re-inspiration! I’m looking forward to adding “juicing” to my life.
What do you think about Uncle Sam’s cereal? It looks pretty good, ingredients are just “whole wheat kernels, whole flaxseed, salt, and barley malt”
Thank you
I’m wondering if spray tanning is safe vs. tanning outside? I’m naturally a pale person and would love to be tan in a healthy way. Please help.
Thanks
Does Grape Nuts have GMO’s in it? Is Grape nuts a healthy cereal?? Just wondering. Thanks.
Hi Vani! What’s your take on the arsenic in rice situation? You’re always so good at keeping us aware of ingredients/foods to be wary of, so I really value your opinion on this!
I have some friends who have recently started either selling Wildtree products or having parties for Wildtree. Their mission:
“Wildtree offers the highest quality herbs, spices and culinary blends that are free of preservatives, additives, fillers and promote a healthier lifestyle. We believe in the value of making cooking a quicker, easier, more healthful project for those who are short on time.”
I just read the ingredients for some of their products, and I’m not convinced that these foods promote a “healthier” lifestyle. For example: These are the ingredients in their “Sunday Morning Cinnamon Rolls”:
Ingredients: Unbleached Enriched Wheat Flour (niacin reduced iron, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid, malted barley flour), Organic Evaporated Cane Juice, Powdered Sugar (sugar, cornstarch), Baking Powder (monocalcium phosphate, baking soda, cornstarch), Sea Salt, Molasses Powder (sucrose, cane molasses, cane caramel color), Cinnamon, Vanilla Powder.
What’s your take on this company and their products? I know the products with tons of sugar are out, but some of the spice blends look good. Thank you!
Food Babe-Please think on doing a healthy recipe for cupcakes. They are the perfect treats especialy at parties for kids and they seem to be on the trend with stores popping up everywhere. My husband brought home a boxed pilsbury cake with a cartin of frosting. Which I confess tasted beter then the previous betty crocker (by a mile) and a Duncan Hines disasters! At least he’s trying to buy something other then what’s “cheapest”. He has a long way to go…ugh!
How do you feel about vaccines? I’m going on a trip to Thailand, Loes, Vietnam and Cambodia several are recommended. Some say they didn’t get anything and others said they just did the malaria pills. I hesitate visiting my Dr. who may not know much about travel and just look up and want to give me everything. Any thoughts?
I personally don’t get them anymore…even if recommended….travel at your own risk! Good Luck.
I’m feeling that too, thanks!
Hello! First I’d like to say, I love your blog and the email you send out daily! It has definitely helped educate me!
I was curious if you could help me out with a question I have.
Terra Sweet Potatoe chips…ingredients: sweet potatoes, expeller pressed canola oil and/or safflower oil and/or sunflower oil.
Sounds simple enough but I’m wondering if these yummy chips are hiding bad things in them still? Could you help me out?
Thank you!
Hi Food Babe
I have been following your blog for almost 1 year now and appreciate all your findings and sharing of information. We just love organic food and it’s the main driver of our food choices. Now we’ve been hearing so much about Gluten-Free, Wheat free, Paleo..Caveman diet. I really relate to eating foods in their most natural form. Butter over margarine for sure. Now we are struggling with the wheat/bread/pasta issue. I love to bake homemade breads with organic flours. According to all the new “findings” all wheat is bad organic or not sprouted or not..and it is turned into sugar in your body….hmmm I am undecided. What do you think about this?
I recently “found” your website thanks to my good friend. I love all your suggestions but I live in India! There are tons of fresh fruits and veg here but hygiene as well as soil health is highly questionable. Can you give me some suggestions as to how to clean my fruits and veg without damaging their nutritional content?
Thanks!
I have been reading about Zilmax, now used in 85% of our beef cattle. It is a beta agonist used to grow the cattle to sizes where they no longer look like cows in order to produce more meat. Manufactured by Merck, it is referred to as a “beef improvement technology” with claims to have no food safety issues for humans, although people with cardiovascular disease should not come in contact with the treated feed and cows cannot be slaughtered for use as food for at least four days after the last treatment. Of course, it is banned in the European Union. What are your thoughts on this practice?
Hi food babe! Thank you for hosting such a wonderful site! I was wondering if you have any tips for eating with people who aren’t into organic food and clean eating. It’s easy enough at a restaurant to choose wisely, but I’ve found that when my boyfriend and I go to our families’ homes, we feel trapped into eating things we really don’t want to (particularly me, as I’m trying to avoid meat!) I’d love to hear your suggestions!
Hi Vani! This is my sencond email today, sorry! So I have a question…. My husband and I just watched Forks over Knives. Omg…. What’s are your thoughts on meat and dairy? Maybe you’ve talked about it before but I couldn’t find it. Also, I love to drink wine but get so frustrated that wine labels do not contain ingredients!!! How do I know what I am drinking is ok?
Look forward to hearing from you,
Courtney

I saw this article on Yahoo! and I immediately thought of you!
Just wondering if you have any thoughts on stainless steel drinking straws? I am starting the lemon water routine, and as I was looking to purchase glass straws I came across stainless steel. The SS is significantly cheaper and I’m wondering if they’re just as safe? Not to mention they should be unbreakable, which is always a plus for me
I just found you recently through the 100 Days of Real Food Blog and tonight I subscribed
I just got your “Healthy Habits” attachment and wondered if you could give me more information on two things:
1.) Can you give me a precise recipe for the lemon water and cayenne? And why warm? Does it work cold?
2.) How far on either side of my meals should I stop or start drinking liquids?
Hi! Firstly, I want to thank you for all of your hard work. This website is such a great guide for me as I strive to eat organic and non-GMO free. However, one of my concerns of course is cost but specifically the cost of getting enough protein in my diet to build muscle. Many say to get (.75*your body weight) grams a day to build muscle. For me that would be 127g a day. Do you have any tips of getting the most organic, non-GMO protein bang for your buck? I’m allergic to all nuts and all seafood (except shrimp).
