Chick-fil-A or Chemical-Fil-A?

Are you getting hungry just looking at this?

This week I posted a picture of the ingredients in a Chick-Fil-A sandwich on my personal and Food Babe Facebook Page– I was curious to see the reaction from my family, friends and Food Babe readers. I found that some people were shocked and some people downright didn’t care and even celebrated the deliciousness in Chick-fil-A’s signature sandwich. You see – The number (close to 100) and type of ingredients are typical for fast food and for many chain restaurants. If you eat out and eat at these type of places, you are feeling the effects of these ingredients, whether you realize it or not. Ever wonder why you have to dose yourself with caffeine after lunch to stay awake? Or have uncontrollable cravings? Or why no matter how hard you work in the gym, you still carry around 10 extra pounds? Or experience depressed moods? Or have joint pain? Or headaches? Or can’t clear up your skin? Or have asthma and/or allergies?

There are close to 100 ingredients in a typical Chick-fil-A sandwhich, majority of them with serious health consequences

I’ve already talked about some of the ingredients found in a Chick-fil-A sandwich – food coloring, refined grains, MSG, GMO Corn in past posts. I want to talk about some of the other preservatives here today. I honestly can’t believe that there are 18 (if I counted right and didn’t miss one) added chemical preservatives to this sandwich. The FDA allows food companies to add these preservatives in limited quantities, however, they do not prohibit companies from adding different preservatives all together by letting them combine different food items that make one big whopping dose. For example, let’s take TBHQ which stands for “Tertiary Butylhydroquinone” – an ingredient that is listed twice, once in the chicken and once in the bun. TBHQ is a chemical made from butane (a very toxic gas) and can only be used at a rate of 0.02 percent of the total oil in a product. Why is there a limit to this? Maybe because eating only 1 gram of this toxic preservative has been shown to cause all sorts of issues, from ADHD in children, to asthma, allergies and dermatitis to dizziness and even has caused stomach cancer in laboratory animals. Limiting TBHQ to a certain percentage, is the same logic the FDA made when allowing a product to still contain 0.5 grams of transfat and be labeled “transfat free.” If you are consuming processed foods, eating at fast food restaurants or chains that use processed foods you are consuming an overload of preservatives and other chemicals. The high dosage is a huge factor contributing to increased auto immune disorders, rising health care and cancer in America. I don’t eat out very often, it’s been about 11 days since I ate out. The reason for this is because when you make your own food, you see what goes in it, making me enjoy it ten times more. I want to feel the best I possibly can in life, with abundant energy and radiating vibrancy. I don’t want to feel sick, always with some aliment or some health issue to complain about. God forbid, if I ever got sick, I want to know I did everything I could to prevent it. When I grow old, I don’t want to burden my family to take care of me because I didn’t care of myself. I didn’t write this post because I was angry or mad at the people that celebrated eating Chick-fil-A after seeing how many ingredients there are. It’s the opposite. It saddens me that people choose to continue to harm themselves and their families by ingesting these chemicals after acquiring this knowledge. IMO, they are walking around half dead. I am, however, hopeful that my blog and leading by example, will turn the lights on in someone new and they won’t ever look at a Chick-Fil-A sandwich ever again.

Wishing you a healthy, long and joyful life!

    1. You are misguided and misinformed…..Chikfila embodies some of the best values of this country: integrity, hard work, pursuit of higher education, value of the family unit, etc. You need to do your homework before accusing someone and/or an institution of such a serious claim.

      1. Actually FB, if you’ll notice, you’ll see I was replying to BruceB reference hate groups….. a bit quick on the defensive, aren’t you…..??

      2. I love Chick-fil-a, will eat there regardless whom they support. It is a business, we apparently did not boycott Kenya when he made his comment, or plenty of others. This is America, where we are free remember? Free Speech, free thoughts, free actions. I say let them do what they want. I am over the bully mentality. I will think, and eat what I want.

      3. By all means, eat as much of that stuff as you want. Health care will be much easier to get soon and you’re going to need it. Chick-fill-a supports hate groups and ruins its supports health at the same time.

      4. Actually, you are willfully misunderstanding the actual comment. Chik-fil-a does in fact support hate groups through their management and associated “charity”. This may be in addition to the other qualities you state. One thing does not negate the other.

It’s too bad really that they soil their reputation and good works through their support of these groups.

      5. Under that logic Our President supports terriorists, ie Bill Ayers etc.

Just saying be careful what you say!

      6. Since when is Christianity about intolerance, hate, discrimination and casting stones at others? Don’t they teach the Golden Rule anymore?

I used to eat there on rare occasions, but the oil changed and the change in taste turned me off with that same rancidy oil taste that a lot of fast foods have now. It just tastes bad. Then I found out about the eat more kale issue and the support for anti gay groups.

No wonder it tastes a bit rancid.

You cannot make evil taste good to a righteous tongue.

Seems like the only people Jesus got intolerant with were the bankers. What has Dan Cathy done to show his solidarity with Jesus in that regard? I bet nothing.

As for the ingredients, thanks Food Babe. You rock.

      7. “Serious claim?” What part of the abovementioned ingredients do you not understand? I wouldn’t feed Chick-Fil-A to my neighbor’s dog.

      1. Aaron, Maybe you should consider changing groups and get in a group that shares God’s love.

      1. I take personal offense to that. I am a team member, have you ever met me? No. Stop making universal statements. How are you any better than a biggot when you make hateful statements about people you have never met?

    2. How can you even think with your mind so tightly closed. This report may be correct but is also misleading. She states she has not ate out in 11 days and has cooked her own food. Unless she killed her own meat, grew her own veggies, and milked her own cows, she does not know what she has been eating. It all has some type perservitives in it. Some good some bad. The typical fast food (McDonalds, Burger King, Arbys, Carls ect.) are far worse than Chic fil A but she did not mention that did she?

      1. seriously. you cannot say that you know “what goes in” food you make at home even if you purchased it at a whole foods store. everything on a store shelf has preservatives. duh.

      2. FYI food babe is vegan, and the nut milk she drinks she makes herself. Maybe you should actually read her blog b4 you comment. She works very hard for people who care about their health and the ones who don’t.. For some reason.

    3. Which “hate” groups are you referring to? I don’t see that they support hate groups, but if you can say which ones, I will support yup in your comment. If you are referring to the fact they are Christian, then I would have to disagree.

  1. Wonder why you choise Chick-Fil-A to pick on. Why not Burger King or Whataburger? Kind of like the biased media during this election year.

    1. Actually I wrote about this last year. Way before any of the media attention CFA got… I write about a lot of fast food places, not just CFA. If you visit my TOP POSTS, you’ll see Starbucks, Subway, Chipotle, Moes, etc…

      1. What have you got against all the places you mentioned? If you don’t like any of them, don’t eat there. Bet you would go hungry then. starbucks is the worst of the grioup – especially way over priced. And it tastes horible YUK!
If you are so critical, if you didn’t eat at those places how would you know?.

Change your initials to mean Face book.

    2. People are so intellectually lazy. Even a cursory review of this blogger’s previous posts would show that this is a concern over all fast food and not just Chick-fil-a. And anybody that doesn’t extrapolate what she says about the chick-fil-a sandwich to other fast food offerings from other companies is just an idiot.

    3. I agree, why not get on some of these other fast foods? Chic-filet has done notjing wrong to my knowledge. It is the dame old, “jump on the band waggon or kick a person down,” attitude by the news media.

  2. 100% natural whole breast filet. That is good enough for me.

Added to the fact they support Christian values, I’m on my way there for lunch.

    1. I love the idiots that drop in here from a link on Facebook and don’t bother to actual read the article. I hope you like your chemically laden sandwich…

      1. Average citizen 2, The moniker Average Drone would be a more appropiate for one of your abridged intelligence. Stick to your tofu and bean sprouts, you blithering imbecile. I will continue to enjoy my 100% natural whole breast filet, chemical laden or not.

      1. So, let me get this straight. You support segregationist bigotry and child abuse. You agree with the act of judging other people, in direct violation of your christian laws. You support the act of convincing foreign governments to murder innocent people for their sexual orientation. You think it’s perfectly alright to deny civil rights to an entire class of people just because you disapprove of the way they were born. Did I get everything right? If so, I really don’t want to be anywhere near you when your messiah returns.

      2. Back it up. Show proof that Chick fil A ever did any of these things. You can not do it. SPLC and gay groups stating they did these things are not proof. Chick fil A donated 100 million to charity. It was not all going to kill gay people as you state. Lets see what gay groups have contributed to, besides themselves. And this whole kiss in protest by gay who just have to shove their sexuality in everybodys view has backfired. NOBODY likes them. They jumped the shark with their nasty behavior. You can not vandalize, bomb threat, cuss out innocent employees and think folks are going to support you. Chick fil A won, big time.

      3. WinShape Gave Over $1.9 Million To Anti-Gay Groups. In 2010, WinShape donated $1,974,380 to a number of anti-gay groups:
        Marriage & Family Foundation: $1,188,380
        Fellowship Of Christian Athletes: $480,000
        National Christian Foundation: $247,500
        New Mexico Christian Foundation: $54,000
        Exodus International: $1,000
        Family Research Council: $1,000
        Georgia Family Council: $2,500
[Winshape 2010 Publicly Available IRS 990 Form via Foundation Center, accessed 6/27/12]

Chick-Fil-A Vice President Launched Marriage And Family Legacy Fund. Don Cathy, Chick-fil-A’s senior vice president, helped launched the Marriage and Family Legacy Fund (MFLF), which “pool[s] funds for a national marriage media campaign and provide start-up grants for local initiatives to promote stable, lasting marriages.” [Philanthropy Roundtable, October 2007]

MFLF Is A Project Of The Anti-Gay Marriage CoMission. The MFLF was created to be the “implementation and funding arm” for the Marriage CoMission, a coalition of groups formed in response to the “downward spiral of marriage and the traditional family in America.” [MFLF Executive Summary, accessed 10/28/11, Marriage CoMission, accessed 10/28/11]

Marriage CoMission Is Supported By Prominent Anti-Gay Activists. Since its inception, the CoMission has been supported by anti-gay activists such as Exodus International’s Alan Chambers and Citizens for Community Values’ Barry Sheets. [Marriage CoMission, accessed 10/28/11]

Chick-Fil-A’s Employment Practices Are Hostile Towards “Sinful” Candidates. Chick-fil-A requires potential franchise operators to disclose their marital status, number of dependents, and involvement in social, church, and other organizations. Employees may be fired for engaging in “sinful” behavior, and Truett Cathy has said he aims to hire workers who are married:
Loyalty to the company isn’t the only thing that matters to Cathy, who wants married workers, believing they are more industrious and productive. One in three company operators have attended Christian-based relationship-building retreats through WinShape at Berry College in Mount Berry, Ga. The programs include classes on conflict resolution and communication. Family members of prospective operators–children, even–are frequently interviewed so Cathy and his family can learn more about job candidates and their relationships at home. “If a man can’t manage his own life, he can’t manage a business,” says Cathy, who says he would probably fire an employee or terminate an operator who “has been sinful or done something harmful to their family members.” [Forbes, 2/23/07]

Chick-Fil-A Gave Away Focus On The Family CD’s In Kids Meals. From October to November of 2005, Chick-fil-A partnered with Focus on the Family and Digital Praise Inc. to give away free interactive CDs of Focus on the Family’s radio program Adventures in Odyssey, which presents kids with “important moral and biblical principles,” with every Chick-fil-A Kid’s Meal. [Digital Praise, 10/17/05]

Focus On The Family Is Notoriously Anti-Gay. Focus on the Family is anti-gay, promoting the theory that gays and lesbians can change their sexual orientation and arguing that homosexuality “violates God’s intentional design for gender and sexuality.” [Focus on the Family, accessed 2/8/11]

Group Opposed Disney’s Decision To Offer Gay Employee’s Partners Health Benefits. In 1995, the Florida Family Council opposed Disney’s decision to extend health benefits to the partners of gay and lesbian employees, helping draft a letter then called the decision “anti-family” and inappropriate for a company that provides “wholesome, family-oriented entertainment.” [Los Angeles Times, 10/19/95]

President Is A Vocal Critic Of Marriage Equality. Mark Merrill, Florida Family Council president, has been a vocal critic of marriage equality. In an interview with NPR in 1996, he criticized Disney for putting domestic partnerships “on a same footing with heterosexual marriage”:

      4. Hey Chutney. Read your email. Usual rant from people like you who think being pro traditional marriage is SOMEHOW being anti-gay. Do you not think a gay child belongs with a mother and a father too? One of my best friends was gay and lost his father when he was 8 years old. Tore him up for life. He would have loved to have been in a traditional family. Did not happen. Also, Exodus International does not kidnap gay people and force them to be straight. They deal with people who do not want to be gay. Can’t imagine why they wouldn’t want to be, what with shortened life spans. I know a lot of gay people who do not associate with other gay people. They do not like them either. Gay people are too mean to each other. Paul Lynd famously said that. And there are a lot of gay christians out there. None of the organizations you reported are anti gay. They are pro traditional marriage. Something everybody ought to be for. It is better for society. And better for gay people. The christians in Uganda fought the slaughter of gays there. It is very easy to research. Try to get your anti christian hate blinders off and think a litte. It is the christians who have gone out in the world and made it safer for everybody, gays included. And did you hear the President of Iran state what they do to gays there? But being a big time liberal, you think muslims will tolerate everybody and christians do not. Well, wake up to reality.

      5. Exodus Intl’s techniques have been completely discredited by the real world of psychology. No reputable mental health professional will use the scriptural based pseudo-science used by Exodus. Even Robert Spitzer, the author of the 2001 study of reparative therapy has retracted and apologized for his study which he now sees as flawed and dangerous.

“I believe I owe the gay community an apology for my study making unproven claims of the efficacy of reparative therapy. I also apologize to any gay person who wasted time and energy undergoing some form of reparative therapy because they believed that I had proven that reparative therapy works with some “highly motivated” individuals. ”

This means that groups like Exodus have been using techniques that are based on seriously flawed data. Techniques that have been proven to be dangerous for the person undergoing them and the anti-gay community has lost another excuse to continue in their pursuit of oppression.

      6. Ref Chutney: Don’t waste your breath (or keyboard) on Chutney…..anyone who characterizes “initiatives to promote stable, lasting marriages”, or FCA’s core values of “INTEGRITY, SERVING, TEAMWORK, and EXCELLENCE” as hateful is beyond any rational thought or reason……very sad. As was mentioned elsewhere on this blog, these type of people preach tolerance and acceptance until your beliefs run contrary to theirs, then it’s all “hate, intolerance, etc.”…….you will never convince their small mind otherwise……

      7. You have not addressed the fact that Exodus does not force anybody to be un-gay. The gay person him/herself does not wish to be gay. This is not about believing someone is or is not voluntarily gay. It is about your assertion that Chic fil A is some kind of fast food funded hate group. And you have not explained how 100 million dollars has been spent on an anti gay agenda. Or given any example of gay groups funding anything but their own self interests. Again, supporting traditional marriage is not anti-gay. Everybody ought to support it. Everybody comes from a man and a woman. It is best for society for them to remain an intact family. No single mothers, single dads, spliced together families, half and step siblings etc. A gay child is better off in a family with a mother and father. You know you come from two opposite sex parents. It is best to have that intact.

      8. CHILD ABUSE?!? really?? child abuse……… where do you see that???? you are just listening to the media and clearly have NO IDEA about ANYTHING that goes on at Chick-fil-A headquarters. keep you mouth shut about where you think chickfila’s money is going if you have never seen their annual reports.

  3. Reading this left a disgusts feeling in my stomach. I read/post multiple article to my family and friends about chemicals they’re consuming all i get from them is organic wont save me or im gonna die anyways. If only that was true not everyone dies quickly but more likely to suffer in older age. As for me when i started to slowly switch to organic, at first i could only afford juices and cheese but not too much. I was left feeding my daughter junk, it HURT me deeply to feed my daughter that junk. I knew what i was doing was wrong it felt like i was giving her spoons of poison, might as well! I don’t believe people don’t care, People just gave up trying to control the uncontrollable, but i want you to know i am one of many who are thankful you continue to care and post. Ill keep reading your blogs, ill continue down a no gmo diet. Thank you. I will not eat here again, two years without McDonalds i can continue to add to my list….Thanks again!

    1. “thankful you continue to care” She may very care, but this article is not about care… It is about choosing sides. The response from the liberal hate group against chick-filet shows how much in the minority you people really are. It sure made my day.

      1. Are you for real? The posts are to INFORM people who care about their health and nutrition. You think it’s hateful to open someone’s eyes to chemicals they ingest? Why are you even here? Go back to your troll cave.

      2. Actually I am for real and thanks for replying.

I am more interested in learning about the effects of the deadly chemicals than you can imagine. But… please don’t throw any of your liberal hate groups into the mix, by doing so you loose any credibility that you could have had. I have several information sites on the web that have been seen by 10’s of thousands of people. Information about the most damaging chemicals in our lives. not selling, just sharing on that site. Here is the link to one of them.
Your challenge will be to have an attention span good enough to simply get you through the one page! Best pay attention… there might be a test afterward! LOL the link http://www.ourlifeline.net/andbabymakes3.htm

      3. Keith, I hate to inform you but you are the one that is prevaricating by bringing in the controversy.

      4. For average citizen 2…

Apparently you missed these things… Can’t imagine how? As you can see, I did not bring up hate groups. Best you stare paying attention!!

      5. Keith,
Do you support organizations that support anti-Christian groups?
Isn’t that hate in a way as well? OR because it fits YOUR belief it is okay? Christianity is VERY clear on it’s position on men sleeping with men, and women sleeping with women. You can try to spin it but it is in black and white. Therefore, I personally chose to fund groups that are anti Christian beliefs. Therefore, I don’t buy from Amazon anymore. Their CEO gave MILLIONS to fund gay marriage in Washington state. It is each persons choice where they spend their money. If you chose not to buy from a chicken place that is yours. Mine is not to give millions to a companmy that gives MILLIONS to something that the Bible tells me is wrong….

      6. Zeke, you are up kind of late!
Any way, I am with you 1000 %!
Where did you get the idea that I am not??

        Thanks for the reply!

I quit Amazon the second they took their stand. The obama campaign support by any business is mind boggeling. obama hates bussiness as much as he hates us and hates America!

      7. I have never supported the Anti-God groups or the anti-God organisms in anything in my life. I would have to be Anti-God and anti-America even to support obama… obama never fooled me… from day one! Like most all Americans, this has never been about race. Although raised in Texas, I still have more close friends that are black than close friends that are white. It just worked out that way.

  4. Great work FB. I’m new to the site, but already enjoying all the information you provided. Thanks for all the recipes, that makes it easier to change. I’ll be sharing the info with friends and family. Keep up the good work!

  5. I noticed a parenthetical remark regarding TBHQ. You wrote, “TBHQ is a chemical made from butane (a very toxic gas)”. So is table salt (Na-Cl). At what rates does TBHQ break down to where the combustible gas, butane, is released? Is it released in it’s original form? I would love to see more research, from you, regarding this chemical.
Also, you posted in the comments that you wrote this article last year, why wait till now to “publish” it? Why wait till Chic-fil-A is in the news to publish such an article?
    Just curious…

  6. It’s very interesting how some people are so programmed with their bad habits that they refuse to admit very visible evidence of the food industry’s hypnotizing of an entire nation (let alone the world) via processed foods. And you wonder why the Coke’s and Kellog’s of the world are fighting the passing of Prop 37. Oh, i guess GMO’s are healthy to them. What a shame.

  7. Ah Ha. MSG. No wonder the sandwiches there always made me sick. Very allergic to MSGs, but the food always tasted good, and no one else in the family would get sick from it. Always figured it was an allergy, just didn’t know which one. That’s too bad, there are so many alternatives.

  8. OK, so their Chicken sandwich is bad for us. So is just about ALL the other fast food out there. We try to steer clear of as much of it as possible and read everything we can so we can make the right choices. But why single out the Chick fil A name for the story? I am sick and tired of politics being somehow shoved into every story I read. I have decide that if a blogger can’t stick with the message, I for one am no longer reading, listening to or recommending the story. Chick fil A has bad food, OK I get it, but McDonalds is even worse. But what really takes the GMO cake is a lame president who appoints a guy from Monsanta to a top position in the FDA

    1. Dearest Elizabeth, please notice that the date of this article is SATURDAY, JULY 9, 2011. I know it is hard to keep things straight in this confused social media world. But really, you need to do a at least a minimum amount of due diligence and review before you go off in a rant on people’s Blogs. The reason this is making the rounds on social media now after being published for over a year is because it pertains to chick-fil-a which has put themselves into the news. If you can’t step back, take a breath, count to 10 and stop assuming the worst in people, maybe this blogger doesn’t WANT you to read her posts. Just sayin’…

  9. Thank you for taking the time to educate people about the benefits of whole, well-grown and raised foods, and for providing recipes to help them make great meals. I regret that you have the interest of so many “sock puppets” and “trolls”, but it must mean you are writing about something highly relevant. Real foods, made simply, have always been healthier than complex, highly-processed foods. That is SO not new knowledge among millions of people who have decades of experience studying and working with that issue. Anyone who makes the switch to healthy whole foods KNOWS that it is true, because so many of their health problems diminish or are completely eliminated.

The mega-corporations that run the processed food empires are the same ones that hired actors to tell everyone that smoking cigarettes was healthy, that DDT wasn’t harmful, and who sold a damnable litany of lies to sell harmful products to ignorant people for decades on end. They are no different today, and they spend billions to control extremely powerful political lobbies, legal departments, and advertising campaigns to keep peddling their junk, and B.S.’ing a poorly-informed public.

Please, everyone, ignore the trolls, sock puppets, and other ignorati who strive to disrupt conversations on sites such as this, and keep on eating well! 🙂

  10. You couldn’t PAY ME to eat at a Chick-Fil-A. I have far more respect for my taste buds, and body than ingesting something so disgusting as a “wanna-Be” chicken breast sandwich. I make it a practice ‘not’ to eat out unless I’m traveling, in which case I’ll stop at the McDonalds, and buy a chicken club sandwich(which incidently is a real piece of chicken, and not processed garbage.

  11. the chic is delicious and we all know the ingredients aint great for you so eat in moderation. But Whole Foods is ubber-expensive and most folks cant afford it. So, in this packaged urban world we need to have preservatives or all our food would rot and we’d all starve and pay tons more. So a bit of balance is in order. I mean a hip martini and a cool cigar invalidate the effects from Whole Foods. so chic is fast food eat at your own risk enough said.

  12. What a crock!! Alot of us can’t afford “organic” food – We do the best that we can but often times a meager income requires us to eat processed food bought at Wally World – this does not make us uncaring or ignorant – As for Chik-Fil-A (CFA), we eat fast food maybe once or twice a month and it usually is CFA because the burger bombs are a lot more lethal – I go to eat the food and not support a political or religious veiw – Let’s not over look the fact they are closed on Sunday so folks of all faiths can be with their families (athiest’s just get a Sunday off) – The toys they hand out with kids meals are educational and not based on some movie or comic boook tie in – The folks generaly have a high level of customer focus and are very pleasant – Compare their customer service to other fast food places – So while taking a shot at CFA, whether politicaly or gay based, mention the positives along with the negatives – You’ll have more credability –

I once hosted an AP reporter for a day on a highly controversial nuclear waste disposal project and after an hour or so I mentioned to him that while he worked for a news agency he actually was in the entertainment business – He was quite offended – I explained that if he wrote strictly the facts his editor would pan it an tell him to “juice” it up – News is a big business and the public wants to be titallating or outraged – sensationalism sells, truth and facts don’t – “Food Babe” where do fall in this area (I know you’re not a reporter but your are putting stuff out there for public consumption)

So all you high minded folks that look down on us because we don’t share your views and don’t wan’t us on your blog because we don’t worship the “Food Babe”, all I can say is do the human race a favor and don’t reproduce!!

Now is the time for you to pick apart my spelling, punctuation, and grammar –

  13. Oh my word, thank you for your research on chick filet. I treat myself
to Chick Filet whenever I’m at the mall and think I’m not being that bad,
holy moley, never, never again. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  14. All fast food is nasty crap. I never eat it.
the bread is the worst part. loaded with fats
did you ever have a bad bun, no. and the stuff
has been sitting for weeks, never goes bad.
    fast food is toxic.

  15. Whether shopping at most grocery stores OR eating at any sort of drive-thru eatery, THEY ALL HAVE THE SAME BAD INGREDIENTS…do your HONEST homework. Citizens for good health need to unite, protest, go to the growers, importers, AND Big Agri , not nit-pick over which one has the MOST toxicities…It’s a fruitless, endless, waste of time to try to get the REAL culprits to stop the NONSENSE and POISONING of mankind! 99% are ALL majorly profit-oriented, greedy, selfish, stubborn, wicked, and outright savage when fighting over their LOVE OF MONEY. Their labels are often misleading, too complicated, and outright DEPRESSING, but THEY DON’T SEEM TO CARE ONE TWIT, AND JUST KEEP ON MAKING THE SAME TOXIC JUNK like robots.

  16. Why are you only picking on Chic-Filet? Your thinly disgused jab is a joke. Munch all the carpet you want but just because someone does not agree you..

If this article was about fast food in general or if you gave other examples you might have some credibility..

To me its just another disgusting homo trying to bully those that disagree with their lifestyle..

    Food Babe is a joke!

    1. I’m sorry, but I don’t think you’ve noticed the date of this post. She wrote it a year ago, way before the whole political hype started. So her motivations couldn’t have been political and she most definitely has not singled out CFA, she has covered plenty of other junk food outlets. Just because you want to see it as an attack against their “morality” doesn’t necessarily make it so.

  17. chick-fil-a’s food, and who they support is great. stop bashing them and get on with your lives

  18. Gosh, so many morons on this site. They’re about two months late to the game – was this site featured in their Good News Brigade newsletter?

Here’s a profound idea: If your bible’s telling you to hate people, I suggest you find another bible. And if you want to eat CFA, by all means do so – God has no mercy on haters, especially fat effs like yourselves.

  19. So if you’re really worried about about comsumer intake of TBHQ, why you just warn consumers on the use of cooking oils. That is actually were the substance it found. A person faces the same danger in their own home when seering a piece of organic chicken in peanut, canola, or most other cooking oils.

  20. You always hear about TBHQ as being made from butane, lighter fluid and in this case a very toxic gas. Well folks, butane is not a toxic gas, it is a simple asphyxiant, just the same as nitrogen which makes up about 80% of the atmosphere. Granted butane is flammable, but TBHQ is not butane based, is it based on hydroxyquinone, which is a phenol based compound, with a tertiary butyl group substituted on the main molecule. It is not related in any way, shape or form to butane, nor lighter fluid. Butane is not very toxic at all, it is non-toxic. The hazard from butane is it wil displace the oxygen ina room and you could suffocate, but most likley you would blow up before that happens as it is a fuel gas.

    1. John posts the first credible piece of information in this string. Thank you!

Phosgene, a real deadly gas and past chemical warfare tool, is a precursor to polyurethane…the same material you come into contact every day – furniture, beds, chairs, cars, carpet cushion, bonded rubber mulch, bowling balls, insulation, breathable film, wood varnish, etc. With this logic from the originator, I should have been dead at the ripe age of 2 days.

Reality is, people are living longer on average each year (for better or worse), even with all these new killers cropping up every day. The lack of food kills or leads to early death to many millions of people each year. The world can not sustain “organic” farming [feeding the masses] and would only lead to food for the hated “rich” people who can afford it. I’m not saying its ideal, its reality.

There are much bigger fish to fry in this world…clean water, malaria, shark attacks….

  21. I never ate at a Chick-fil-A and prefer to eat Big Rally Burgers at my local Rally’s! I don’t care about the chemicals. If you eat out or buy fast food, you know your going to eat a whole day’s calories, fat, and salt in one meal and get a dose of preservatives that you keep you well preserved after your dead. But what the heck! The burgers or Chick-f-a’s are delicious and I don’t want the government or anybody else telling me what I can eat. I seldom eat out or order take out meals so it doesn’t effect me much.

  22. you make it yourself from where, the processed foods at the grocery store? Those additives are the same there, I don’t think you are helping yourself much except in calories. Look at the labels on ham, turkey and bread…I love CF but 1-3 times a month as fast food is just too fattening for me.

  23. FB, thank you so much on pointing out the additive ingredients. I am sure lots of people still love the sandwich. I have not eat in many of the fast food chains, but Arbys and McDonalds. Our family eat out once a year, but we prefer Chinese Buffet, which has lots of fruit bar, veggie bar, sushi bar, and Mogolian grill. Still we used to careless about what to eat. We used to take turn to get flu even we had the flu shot. Then I stumbled in many posted like yours, I started to buy only healthy food or allow ourselves eat only healthy fresh food. For the past 7 years, my 70 years old mother and my whole family have not had a flu, or cold without a flu shot. My spouse used to love soda, but I refused to purchase it. He lost all his fat belly and now weight at 130lbs as me. He still crave for it sometimes, but he love how he can fit into his clothes. My cholesterol count stay at 100 and I seems to look younger and more energetic than 7 years ago. Thank you for the information and keep up the good work.

  24. All I want to know is why are they considered HATE groups because they oppose being Gay? I personally do not care what your sexually preferences are, live your life. And I ask that you allow me to do the same. Be known for your integrity, not your sexual preferences. As for Chick-Fil A….if you don’t want to know what FB researches and posts on her blog, why do you read it? If you believe everything is a choice…choose not to read it. Or at least post sensible comments.

  25. I can tell you that I will think twice before ever going there in the future. I am so disappointed in Chick Fil A and I will rarely feed their food to my kids anymore. Thanks for this information. I’ll also be telling my friends with kids about this.

  26. The amount of people trolling on this forum disturbs me. Food Babe is hot because she eats healthy.

  27. im so glad i stumbled across your blog. i dont eat out very often but when i do i usually go for vegetarian choices because i don’t trust corporate “meats” i even wonder about the veggies im eating sometimes. do you have any info about those? i always worry that chain restaurants are giving me gmos.

  28. This used to be my favorite place to eat until I read your post. Keep up the good work you are doing!!!

  29. I’m vegetarian so I don’t eat their sandwiches anyway but on occasion I allow my children to have the grilled chicken bites without sauce and either the applesauce or fruit cup. Are all these horrible things in their grilled chicken too?

  30. Thank you so much Food Babe for all the hard work you have done and continue to do!
Wow! I am so very disappointed in many of your comments! Since when did a food blog have anything to do with a God, racism, or hate groups?! The whole point to this post is to educate us all on whats in our food! Thats it, thats all! I for one am very appreciative that we have someone like Food Babe for being a voice for ALL of us! Its common sense people that there’s no reason for large funky words in a huge list of ingredients when all your ordering is chicken! Where has the thought in our lives as well as our children’s gone? We need to all stop walking around like zombies and show some meaningful passion towards our life as well as others!

  31. Why does every single issue have to come back to religion these days? Even healthy food? Seriously? So sick of hearing from religious fanatics who think they are the majority. And why do so many self-proclaimed “religious” people support hate and businesses that fund and therefore promote hate? And why are you all so insecure, reactive and excitable? I don’t care what you do, so don’t worry about what I or anyone else does. Go live your life.

This forum is about healthy food. If you want to defend Chick-fil-a even though it serves up chemicals and hate while they hide behind their “religion” and “morality” then go eat there! (BTW, the whole thing is not a “freedom of speech issue”, it’s a “funding hate crimes issue.”) Maybe this just isn’t the forum for you. I’m sure there are lots of others out there better suited to you and your views. So, go eat garbage and die sooner. The rest of us are really quite fine with that!

Meanwhile, the rest of us appreciate advocates like Food Babe who shine a light on these issues so we can choose whether we want to eat and feed our families harmful chemicals or not. Ya know…’free country’ and all…

  32. I’ve been following your blog and a few others for about a year now in my efforts to keep myself and my kids healthy. We never eat fast food, and I’ve switched to organic and GMO free foods (with the exception of bread for their lunches, I need to find an alternative). Last week, my kids’ school was having a fund-raiser at Chic-Fil-A, so I made an exception. I had that sandwich, and soon after I felt like total crap…which lasted through the next day. And now, after reading this, I won’t be supporting the school fundraising efforts at Chic-Fil-A ever again. You do a great job educating the public, so thank you. It’s sad that those people that care NOTHING about their health, enjoy ranting their nonsense all over your blog…they must have nothing better to do. Keep up the good work Food Babe!

  33. It saddens me that people choose to continue to harm themselves and their families by ingesting these chemicals after acquiring this knowledge. IMO, they are walking around half dead. (I’m going to borrow this line and keep on our fridge) No wonder why so many worry about a Zombie Apocalypse …. JK kinda!

  34. I feel that if peope want to fill their bodies with junk food they may do so at their own peril, much like those whom smoke and drink excessively. All the rest if us are greatful for being aware of what we consume. Being poisoned by food companies who knowingly use unsafe ingredients for profit and giving it to consumers that do not have the knowledge is no different than premeditated murder in my opinion.
Should you know aspartame can lead to depression and choose to consume it, by all means.
I, however, am glad to know i now am empowered by the information Vani and others like her are supllying the public.

    1. too bad so many are uninformed & were never educated to the value of nutrition. it amazes me that people will religiously change their oil every 3k miles for a car they’ll have for 3-5 years and then use that vehicle to go get the gasoline equivalent of ditch water and gobble it down on a daily basis – then they wonder why their engines are failing…

  35. You know, I was already on the edge with their anti-gay nonsense. The MSG and other crap just puts me over the edge. The sandwiches are so tasty, damn it!

It’s weird, I’m a food label nazi at the grocery store but just ignored ingredients at cfa – I never go to other fast food places… Now I’m down to just eating at super nice places & home 🙁 No easy road for healthy eating.

  36. Thank you Food Bade for your constant investigation and diligence when it comes to sharing the truth about our food. You’ve opened my eyes even further into the importance of real, whole, unadulterated food.
    Keep up the fight!

  37. I got tired just from reading that. I am so glad that I do not purchase any meat meals from fast food restaurants. If its absolutely necessary, then I purchase a salad.

  38. … People live longer? I think most Americans live with more discomfort and pain from an early age, which they need to see more doctors for, get more treatments for, more surgeries, more medication prescribed, all throughout the span of our lives… We live for corporations, we pay them, we hold them accountable for feeding us whatever they want to, we hold doctors and pharm. companies to give us treatment for specific issues that have come about from, most times, our own neglect to grow in healthy ways. People are demanding “health care” to be affordable, as they go try to buy the cheapest manufactured products in the store! Anyone who tries to accumulate money is going to produce something that HOOKS PEOPLE.. And do so by usually using the cheapest process possible without disgusting the buyers… And now, WHAT DISGUSTS PEOPLE ANYMORE?! And why are so many people reverting to the saying “People are living longer now anyway”… Is that what this is all about? Do you just want to depend on big companies to hustle you your extended years through exploiting resources, making it harder to live a natural life for every child born hereafter, whom must be told to trust and depend on big companies to take care of them?
This post by Food Babe was actually about the ingredients of a manufactured product that people casually put in their bodies because, well, ” A COMPANY MADE IT, SO IT SHALL BE BOUGHT” is what Americans are taught. Even in Europe, people rally and protest artificial ingredients, animal testing, Genetically Modified ingredients in products that are made in America and the companies amend their products to use different procedures and ingredients… Yet, many Americans have the thought that they are “FREE” and nobody should speak out to try and define limits to how crazy things can get! And P.S. Hybrid plants are HARDER to maintain! genetically modified plants are designed by the pesticide companye themselves to actually NEED to be sprayed with the toxic pesticides. Corporate people sitting up in luxury do NOT care about your health. They want people to pay all their money to the Pharmacy, to the Insurance companies, to turn the amazing life-giving farms once owned and worked by generations of amazing American farmers, to CORPORATE PROPERTY so they can conquer and divide. I am really hoping people look around to their closest family farms, gather their friends and families, and begin cooking food together that was raised in the soil they swell upon…..

    1. I meant dwell upon, haha.. Hey do any of you have a food Co-Op around your area? Food Co-Ops are where you pay your due to become a member whic actually owns your share of the Co-Op! We are getting a co-op going in my town, set to open next year! The meetings are open for everyone in the community, or any kind of visitor who manta to come.l. And anybody can make quests, everyone talks and plans on what products to have on the shelves, how to arrange the storefront, what kind of events to hold at the store and in the community, such as canning, fermenting, gardening, cooking, etc… And it is a great hub for the local farmers to bring their stocks to and get the FReSh, real food out in the community! The membership would give us lower prices than going to, say, Wegmans, Giant, Food Lion, etc and buying our choice of healthy food… Remember, every store has the control to put on the shelves what THEY want you to buy, not what YOU pick! check out FOOD CO-OPs!! : )
