The Shocking Email From Monsanto: Why I am submitting a FOIA request

I’ve always said that food and chemical corporations work with public university scientists “behind closed doors” to manipulate the public—and now our movement has irrefutable PROOF. But first, let me start at the beginning…

When our movement got big companies to change, Dr. Kevin Folta, from University of Florida appeared on the scene. Every time we made headway on an important issue, Kevin Folta, who claimed to be an unbiased scientist, was there to refute our claims and throw some ad hominem attacks. Here are a few examples (many more are documented at the end of this post):

“The fact that she is able to mobilize this army of blind followers who reject science and follow her words, to smear and harm the reputations of companies that are doing nothing wrong.” – The Atlantic, 2/11/2015

Kevin M. Folta, the chairman of the horticultural sciences department at the University of Florida, described Ms. Hari’s lecture at the university last October as a “corrupt message of bogus science and abject food terrorism.” – quoted in New York Times, 3/15/2015

“There’s something that dies inside when you are a faculty member that works hard to teach about food, farming and science, and your own university brings in a crackpot to unravel all of the information you have brought to students.” — Folta’s Blog, Food Babe Visits My University, 10/21/2014

My intuition and common sense knew that this guy HAD to be connected to these corporations in some way, but he kept denying any connection. And I believed he was causing irreparable harm to our healthy food movement because the media believed that he was an unbiased scientist.

Well, NOT ANYMORE.

This week an unprecedented major investigative report was published in the NY Times about how the chemical and food industries work with public university scientists to advance their agendas to the public. Hundreds of emails have now been revealed between University of Florida Professor Dr. Kevin Folta, Monsanto, the biotech front groups, and their PR firm Ketchum after a FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) request was submitted by the nonprofit group U.S. Right To Know.

folta nyt article

Why would Monsanto work with a public scientist in the first place?

Some powerful entities in the chemical and food industries have a financial incentive to try to discredit us in the work we have all done together and now we know how they are using public scientists like Dr. Kevin Folta as sock puppets to advance their message. We’ve come a long way in our food movement and things are finally starting to change –  people are getting healthier and the food industry is responding to us, but why is someone like Dr. Kevin Folta on a mission to stop our progress?

Newly discovered emails reveal that Folta received a $25,000 unrestricted grant from Monsanto, and even wrote to a Monsanto executive, “I’m glad to sign on to whatever you like, or write whatever you like,” and “I promise a solid return on investment.”

However, Folta previously denied ties to Monsanto, here are 9 different examples:

Not only was Folta repeatedly dishonest about his ties to Monsanto, but on “several occasions” according to the NY Times, Folta took word for word answers and commentary from Monsanto’s PR firm Ketchum to use as his own words. Previously he claimed he never used the text written for him by the PR firm Ketchum.

Monsanto sells Roundup, the chemical that is sprayed on the majority of GMO seeds. The main ingredient in Roundup was recently classified as a probable carcinogen. They are in panic mode trying to repair their image and will do anything to confuse the public.

Folta attempted to derail my speaking event at the University of Florida. He has also been interviewed by major media outlets such as The Atlantic, NPR, and the NY Times acting as an unbiased third party source, telling reporters he has no financial ties to Monsanto or the biotech industry all while acting as the ringleader and chief of my critics.

Monsanto thanks Folta for attending my talk at The University of Florida

One of the emails discovered by USRTK.org showed Lisa Drake, an executive at Monsanto cheering Dr. Folta on after he attended my talk at his University last fall. Dr. Folta wrote a blog post attempting to discredit my talk including a false accusation that I refused to answer questions from the audience. (FYI – Here’s the photographic evidence of the long line of teachers and students that I answered questions from.) I still find it bizarre that if he wanted to ask me a question so bad that he didn’t stay to meet me face to face. Instead he spread dishonest information about my talk all over social media, in forums and on his blog, acting more like an online troll than a distinguished science professor.

Monsanto Folta

Seeing this email sent shivers down my spine and left me with a lot of questions. First and foremost, my talk was not about the dangers of GMO foods, it was about the story of quitting my corporate career to become a food activist sharing examples of major food companies changing their policies. Who wrote that paragraph summarizing my talk that Lisa Drake referenced? Why was a Monsanto executive sending this message to Folta? Did they ask him to attend my talk? Are they paying him to attack activists like myself? At the time I had no idea why this professor was so aggressive towards me but now it’s starting to make sense.

I’ve tried to explain to various reporters in the past that many of our critics are part of the larger entrenched food and chemical lobby that doesn’t agree with having more transparency (labeling GMOs) or doesn’t want to remove the controversial chemical additives from our food. The reporters have always said but what about the “public university scientists” that have no ties?

This investigation finally begins to explain that.

Why I am also submitting a FOIA request

In light of this email and the incredible amount of reputational damage Dr. Folta has waged on me personally and our healthy food movement (see a sampling of his public comments below), I am submitting a formal request to the University of Florida to have all documents and correspondence released to the public from Dr. Kevin Folta regarding my name Vani Hari and Food Babe.

I believe obtaining these correspondences will serve the public in greater transparency on how the food industry uses “independent” third-party scientists and professors to control science and deliver their PR and lobbying messaging.

I’ve often wondered why companies like Monsanto go through such great lengths to stop transparency about GMOs… If their food is safe, why don’t they want to label GMOs? Why would they pay public university scientists to advance their message?

Xo,

Vani

Quotes from Kevin Folta:

Folta calls me a crackpot, accuses me of food terrorism, blackmail, villifying farmers and compares me to a dog.

“Vani is very good at marketing herself and telling people what they want to hear. She is very good at playing into the current popularity of vilifying farmers and large-scale agriculture. But really, she’s her own company, and she’s the spokesperson.” – The Atlantic, 2/11/2015

Kevin M. Folta, the chairman of the horticultural sciences department at the University of Florida, described Ms. Hari’s lecture at the university last October as a “corrupt message of bogus science and abject food terrorism.” (Her fee was $6,000.) Dr. Folta added, “She found that a popular social media site was more powerful than science itself, more powerful than reason, more powerful than actually knowing what you’re talking about.”. – quoted in New York Times, 3/15/2015

“She really conflates the science. If anything, she’s created more confusion about food, more confusion about the role of chemicals and additives.” – NPR, 12/4/2014

“To have someone like Hari go out and make up nonsense that only digs into public opinion against these technologies is really frustrating for us.” – The Atlantic, 2/11/2015

“That’s not healthy activism or change based on science. That’s coercion, fear mongering and (yes) terrorism to achieve short-sighted political non-victories in the name of profit and self-promotion, ironically the same thing she accuses the companies of.” — Food Babe Visits My University, 10/21/2014

“Luckily, Starbucks didn’t fold… Otherwise, Hari would have blackmailed them too.” – Food Babe Visits My University, 10/21/2014

“Vani Hari would be spreading her corrupt message of bogus science and abject food terrorism here at the University of Florida. Oh joy”. – Food Babe Visits My University, 10/21/2014

“Responding to the Food Babe is like telling a funny joke to my dog at a party. Everyone there gets it– except for the dog. She just tilts her head to one side and looks at me like I’m stupid.” – Response to the Food Babe. This is Boring, 3/19/2015

“There’s something that dies inside when you are a faculty member that works hard to teach about food, farming and science, and your own university brings in a crackpot to unravel all of the information you have brought to students.” — Food Babe Visits My University, 10/21/2014

“If this is a charismatic leader of a new food movement it is quite a disaster. She’s uninformed, uneducated, trite and illogical. She’s afraid of science and intellectual engagement. She’s Oz candy at best.”- Food Babe Visits My University, 10/21/2014

“What if Hari were to take a long look in the mirror and decide that while scaring people into boycotts and book buying pays the bills, the legacy associated with it is embarrassing. Time will frown on Hari, and it already is happening.  While adored by internet fans, scientists, physicians, the food industry, farmers and science fans see her clearly as the empty information vessel she truly is.” – The Value of Vani, 12/12/2014

“Her discussion was a narcissistic, self-appointed attack on food science and human nutrition. There is a vein in my head that pulses when I hear someone deliberately misrepresent science for personal celebrity, and it was pounding.” – Food Babe Visits My University, 10/21/2014

“I was really proud to see that the student audience was not buying it. Throughout her presentation that was about Hari in the spotlight and “me-me-me”, students got up and left. She left gaping pregnant pauses where previous performances got applause– only to hear nothing. Not even crickets.” – Food Babe Visits My University, 10/21/2014

“While microphones stood ready in the audience to answer questions, there was no public Q&A period where a scientist that knows the research could publicly challenge her false assertions.”- Food Babe Visits My University, 10/21/2014

“I guess I’m just angry because I didn’t get to lock science horns with The Food Babe. I would have liked to have asked a few questions that she could never answer.” – Food Babe Visits My University, 10/21/2014

“I listened to her talk about herself and provide lots of false information to my students, and waited for the opportunity to ask dismantling questions from one of the two microphones in the room”. – A Letter To Support My Claims Against the Food Babe, 11/16/2014

“She did not take questions from the audience. The event ended and the audience left”.- A Letter To Support My Claims Against the Food Babe, 11/16/2014

“She was paid $6000 for over an hour’s time to promote her brand and spread her filth.  Now scientists and educators have to fix it.” – A Letter To Support My Claims Against the Food Babe, 11/16/2014

“As we attempt to illuminate products, technology and method to feed a growing population, Hari’s shameful resistance to reality needs to be met. We’ve done that, and I’m proud of the push back…” – The Value of Vani, 12/12/2014

“Recently I’ve given a number of talks and interviews where I’ve been described as the “guy that stood up to the Food Babe”. While standing up for science is important, I’d rather be described as the guy that changed her mind because I took the time to teach the facts.” – The Value of Vani, 12/12/2014

“I cannot think of someone so clueless that thinks she’s so clue-full. The bravado to manufacture completely wacky statements is beyond arrogance, and to criticize students who approach her from a scholarly evidence-based point shows she’s fully subscribed to her own deception.” – Vani Hari’s Kooky Response to Critical Students, 1/26/2015

Folta discredits Food Babe campaigns to remove controversial chemicals from the food supply:

“Bread is a foam. Even culinary experts will tell you. It was a perfectly safe food additive for years, until she came along and decided that Subway bread was essentially a yoga mat.” – The Atlantic, 2/11/2015

“The fact that she is able to mobilize this army of blind followers who reject science and follow her words, to smear and harm the reputations of companies that are doing nothing wrong.” – The Atlantic, 2/11/2015

“Safety always has to be the number one concern. And an understanding of safety is contingent on an understanding of the chemical in question. But she lacks the scientific prowess to be able to tell when something is truly a threat, and when something poses no threat.” – The Atlantic, 2/11/2015

Additional Evidence: Folta denies any ties to Monsanto on his blog:

“In another thread she encourages those curious to call the university, because “a certain professor who promotes Monsanto… has spread a lot of nonsense”. Again, she speaks from no evidence, leveling false allegations against a public scientist that only wants her to back her claims with science.  How do I ‘support Monsanto’?”- A Letter To Support My Claims Against the Food Babe, 11/16/2014

“She also took the liberty of making a false association between a public scientist and university professor to a company that does not exist, purely to discredit him. Here are two clear falsehoods that Hari stands by.  Why anyone would take any advice from her, ever, is beyond me.”- A Letter To Support My Claims Against the Food Babe, 11/16/2014

“Of course, she ties me in with Monsanto. Blatantly false. But since when does she need evidence before making a claim?” – Vani Hari (Food Babe) and Silencing Critics, 12/7/2014
Folta’s personal email to Food Babe (3/19/2015):

“I work as an independent, public scientist. Companies have no control of my research, my results or my opinions.”

“You’ll also see from my publications that almost all of my funding comes from public sources, like USDA, NSF and NIH. I’m not a “Monsanto scientist” as you’ve suggested. My only “industry funding” is for strawberries– a strawberry industry of family farmers that grow a nutritious fruit. Yes, I answer questions on GMO Answers. I am not paid, I’m grateful for the forum, and if you gave me a page on Food Babe.com to answer questions the answers would be exactly the same.”

    1. LOL! loved this! Rick Perry running for Prez said the same thing over $5K. These people sell out very cheaply and look to make it up in volume!! haha.

    2. Amen! He’s either a lousy negotiator or actually enjoys the thrill of deceiving everyone. I wish we could find an email thread like this from one the “scientists” involved in geoengineering who claim they’re doing it for “global warming.”

Oh, wait, we did – climategate. But no one seemed to care….

  1. Thanks again Vani for sharing such important information! But please don’t stop with the University of Florida. I was dismayed earlier this year when I saw that Cornell University accepted a $5.6MM grant from the Gates Foundation — I believe to ultimately discredit anti-GMO groups. Sounds impossible, and maybe my facts are wrong, but can you check this out too?

  2. Honey, I am 78 and have been a “health nut” all my life as my parents were light years ahead of their time. This has been a FIGHT from day 1. Keep up the fight you are making a HUGE difference and I am in AWE of what you have accomplished. I raised my 2 girls on healthy foods and supplements and am still researching and incorporating new things into my diet as information becomes available and trust me when I tell you that YOU ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE AND I AM SO PROUD TO BE A VERY SMALL PART OF WHAT YOU ARE DOING. I watch eagerly for your newsletters and information as you come across new things. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND KNOW THAT YOU HAVE AN ARMY AT YOUR BACK.

  3. [email protected] is the address for the Chair of the U. of Florida Faculty Senate.
The man’s name is Paul Davenport. I think the Army should flood the college with emails about how their faculty member lies and is corrupt. They claim to be an excellent research college. Then someone in that city should let the local papers in Florida know how he is hurting the reputation of that university.

    1. Thanks for the email address. Done.

      Hello Mr Davenport,
Many now sincerely look forward to that Mr Folta and anyone else taking industry sponsorship and claiming they are not, are promptly being dishonored and dismissed in public from the University of Florida.

The least the University can start with is a press release to papers that have written about the story like NY Times, in which a strong public stand against Mr Folta’s actions and his clandestine cooperation with Monsanto is taken.

That educational and scientific institutions are being abused in this manner is bringing Universities in disrepute and must be dealt with in the strongest possible way if the university is to preserve any future public credit.

Your actions are now in the public eye.

      Best Regards,
      Sten

  4. Dear Van and FoodBabe Army,

Thank you for all the work you do and exposing these puppet scientists. Our food supply is getting cleaner thanks to our demand for healthy food. That is what scares these toxic chemical and Ag companies. The best way to show support for what you do for us is to purchase organic food and clean non-food products. Continue to ask for organic products at restaurants, ask for wild fish vs farm-raised, and be diligent about eating non-GMO clean food. We all stand behind you Vani.

  5. Sue him and the University, Vani. (We can do a Go Fund me if necessary)
I am in the middle of writing a letter to the President of the University of Florida, President W. Kent Fuchs; pointing out the damage to the University that employing the corrupt caliber of Dr Folta, has on the school. I suggested that any center of learning that endorses someone with such a lack of integrity by employing him, should also be held out as a less than desirable center for a quality education. If you can’t trust the information, why would you want to go there?
    Don’t ever stop!
    Thank you!

  6. http://healthimpactnews.com/2015/covert-chemical-geoengineering-programs-a-real-threat-to-public-health/

Here is the big picture of Monsanto. Kill the soil and control the seeds, gain control. Government represents Monsanto so they are one, with no interest in humanity. You think I am dramatic, watch your sky. Watch our weather around the world, is it freaky or science (pollution)? Even those with sun energy have to tie into the electric grid and pay taxes, why? There are larger agricultural problems to come. Go to the site above before it’s taken down. Everything I said is not hidden, all public information. They are counting on people being too ill to notice, or acting too late.

Thank you Food Babe. People notice what you are doing and agree, even if we don’t blog much and go public. We support you and are able to recognize truth from lies. What I can’t figure out is how $25g (any amount) is worth selling out our planet? Sleep on that Kevin M. Folta, and all those working/supporting Monsanto!

  7. We all need training in how to overcome this “you are not a scientist, doctor, health professional and you don’t have “science” behind you” knee jerk response from the a(lso) non-scientific trolls and shills out there. We need to examine how Monsanto and the international pharmaceutical companies are engaging in the “science” of propaganda and are successfully recruiting “non scientists” to engage in “shaming” on their behalf. That is science and they are spending big money to control people’s minds.

  8. This should surprise no one. The same thing happens with Big Pharma. They pay universities “grants” to help them push their dope, I mean, Rx through the FDA.

  9. Intuition Prevails yet again !!
Stay strong, Vani. Those people are villains, heinous villains.

  10. Forgot to mention in my previous post that people should look at their investments and get Monsanto and others out of their mutual funds portfolio. We should generate and post a list companies NOT to invest in.

  11. You are awesome – we see through all the vitriol to money, money, and more money. The more vitriol, especially on public media, the more you must be correct – keep it up. I think this is just the tip of the iceberg in regards to how corrupt the food / agriculture / medical industry is with their sponsored research and friends in politics.

  12. Thank you for all the work you are doing and taking up all the challenges. It is really a tought job.

  13. Waaaay to go!

And you should have an attorney review this info for possible legal action ( e.g. defamation, fraud, etc.)

  14. When the university finds out what a fake Kevin Folta is, they will fire him saving everyone (except Folta) a lot of money because they won’t have to pay his salary any longer.

They should also consult with their attorneys as they might be able to sue him for previously-paid wages using misrepresentation and deceit as a legal basis.

But I say, why wait? We should circulate a petition demanding that the university censure him then void his contract for unethical and unprofessional behavior. (starting with dishonesty and deceit).

And hopefully, Monsanto will make him pay back the $25,000 they paid him because he really screwed up his ‘mission’ to discredit the Food Babe.

We have your back Vani! Even NYT is helping.

  15. Thank you for relentlessly pursuing the truth and exposing the corruption that exists in big Ag. I was somewhat shocked to hear that it had infected the University system but I suppose that there is always greed and desperation for more funding (where ever it comes from) to maintain tenure and promote your position. Surely there are safer and healthier ways to protect the planets food supply and its inhabitants for generations to come.

  16. The “so-called” scientist should be sued for slander. It’s such a sad world we live in these days. People are so mean and hateful to each other and many borderline stupid. And it all seems to be about money and lies. I am an organic consumer as much as possible and I’m not one of the “rich” people (well, when it comes to money rich). I am smart enough to grow my own food as much as I can with no pesticide use and I know what is a GMO in the grocery store and what is not. It’s easy once you get a little knowledge behind you. I guess these “trolls” that are bashing the Non-GMO movement must eat GMO’s themselves or they would feel so good that they would be nice to people. Maybe they lack for anything better to do than to bully people that are trying to do good in this world.

  17. It is time to be Aware not IN the Dark as we have been for so long!!! Keep pursuing the truth and you’re going to get a growling dog trying to bite you … but it does not change the fact that secrets are being hidden for financial gain. We need to care about our bodies, our health and our children’s. All we ask is for TRANSPARENCY in what is in the food we eat. American’s can choose from there. Keep up the good work !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. You are a tireless crusader and we all thank you!!!! I am always glad to see these @$%#^&* people who benefit from the destruction of others. However, it is always disappointing that they never have to pay a penalty. When these heinous self serving cockroaches of society finally are held accountable and have their lives ruined as a result of ruining others’ lives, that’s when I will be satisfied, and elated!! When there is no deterrent, there will be no reason why these unethical S.O.B.s will turn down the money. Just look at the banking industry and government.

  19. This “expert” teaches TWO classes, according to the linked biography site.
TWO? I wonder what he does with the rest of his time…..stay in touch with Monsanto people?
And one of his links is dead.
    Hiding out already, Dr, Folta?
    Go for him, Vani!!!!

  20. I’ve had an experience on one of my flights from SFO to Dallas in Sep-Oct 2014.
My Co-passenger sitting next to me was a Monsanto PR guy, who was engaging his team to counter the social media outrage that was building. I could see him forward contacts and articles to a few distribution lists who would throw that material on forums, chat rooms, social media where discussions are going and derail them,
He was relentless in his emails, encouraging his team and praising them while calling names on people who where against. There was good effort going to stop the growth

These are paid mercenaries who are handsomely remunerated and compensated.

  21. To those who support Monsanto and other corrupt companies in charge of making “food” for our citizens, EAT UP!!!!! Hopefully that will cleanse the gene pool.

  22. Vani, that is why they do that, I just hope they don’t try to kill you. They seem like a Mob, you are the best for us please don’t believe them at all we know how well you are doing for us. Just stay safe.

  23. Hi
Thanks for all the info. It isn’t suprising that the agriculture secretary used to be part of Monsanto and is still the AG secretary. Good luck on your FOIA. It is a good that you did not have a FOIA for the agriculture dept. You would wait for an eternity to get your info

  24. Kevin M. Folta should be fired from the University of Florida for such blatant lying to the press and for personally attempting to slander your name. He is a disgrace to the University and I would never send a child to such a place. How can we respect an institution of higher learning that continues to support such a person as
Kevin M. Folta? His conduct demonstrates total disregard for moral and ethical behavior and as such, is grounds for his dismissal.

Vani, I applaud your work; there are countless scientific and medical research papers that support your efforts. Please continue your relentless fight to bring the truth to America and end this epidemic of outrageous behavior by people like Folta.

  25. I buy organic all the time, I know that food companies have hidden the side effects of added chemicals

  26. You are truly awesome.!! And don’t worry, I a 65 and have been accused of being nuts, crazy, crackpot, extreme, whatever. And I have been preaching this stuff for yrs. And raised 2 HEALTHY kids, now 44 & 46 and neither have ever had a cavity! Not too many parents can say that. My kids never had NutraSweet (Aspartame) and both are awesome! My mantra-if you cannot pronounce it, why put it in your body? You wouldn’t put Gatorade in your gas tank, right? I tell anyone I meet to check out your web site. People are so blind, just eating whatever. I am praying for you and your family’s’ safety, cause you are messing with the big money people- which is exactly why they hate you! You threaten their money avenues. Keep it up!!!
    Love Ya,
    Gigi

  27. Vani, I applaud you for standing up to big business, big ag, and the media. You are waging war on a big scale – one I cannot comprehend. Your willingness to put yourself in the proverbial crosshairs is astonishing and impressive. I’m not that brave. I live in St. Louis, MO, where Monsanto is headquartered. I am a writer and had the opportunity to interview one of the scientists in the Danforth Center (part of Monsanto), where they create GMOs for developing countries. When I asked about the safety of GMOs and potential long-term harmful effects, you would have thought I had insulted him about his mother. He was not happy. That line of questioning was quickly shut down.

What has been uncovered above is abhorrent. I had had suspicions about Folta when I came across articles where he was quoted. What he would say didn’t ring true, nor did he sound very “professorly” when saying it. He’s a shill, plain and simple.

I don’t follow all of your suggestions (yet) in your book, but am working on it. The harder person to “convert” is my guy, who has never given a thought about GMOs, organic, pesticides, bees, or saving the planet. He had no idea what he was getting into when he started dating me 4 years ago. 😀 But he’s moving in the right direction.

Thank you for ALL you do!

    1. share this tidbit with him: “GMOS ARE INHERENTLY UNSAFE -There are several reasons why GM plants present unique dangers. The first is that the process of genetic engineering itself creates unpredicted alterations, irrespective of which gene is transferred. This creates mutations in and around the insertion site and elsewhere. The biotech industry confidently asserted that gene transfer from GM foods was not possible; the only human feeding study on GM foods later proved that it does take place. The genetic material in soybeans that make them herbicide tolerant transferred into the DNA of human gut bacteria and continued to function. That means that long after we stop eating a GM crop, its foreign GM proteins may be produced inside our intestines.” Charu Verma, Surabhi Nanda, R.K. Singh, R.B. 1. Hi Jeff, Thank you for the information! I will share that with my guy.

Happily, he has become much more open-minded about what goes in his mouth these days. Also great is his 17-year-old son’s interest in food discussions and my passion for growing fruits and vegetables for our dinner table. We are all learning together, which makes life that much more fun.

  28. Hi Vani,

I really love what you do, however, you should consider a name change for your organization since it will help your credibility. Food Watch or some other name that sounds activist would be better.

Anyway, keep up the good work.

  29. Food scientists and Universities really believe in the good they are doing to feed the world, they just don’t want to hear that they may be doing it the wrong way. I started college in Animal Science and realized that I couldn’t justify the practices personally. There is a disconnect. Thank you for what you do.

  30. Awesome job….you go girl!!
This will teach them a little respect.
Just like David and Goliath, you put them on their heels.
Folta has put his foot in his big mouth too many times!
    Sock it to him good.

  31. I have a nutrition background. But whatever is said about science and there not being evidence . . . we don’t want anything we can’t pronounce in our food. He can bash you all he wants, but the peoples’ voice is louder. Keep rocking out, Vani! We appreciate what you do.

  32. I so appreciate all that you do to bring the truth to light! I worry about your safety though after all the dr.’s that have mysteriously died in Florida. Be careful!

  33. Thank God everyone can now see the truth and stop listening to all the lies told and bought by BAD FOOD America, aka: Monsanto and the like!!!!

I’m sure this took forever to put together, but it NEEDED to be done! Thanks Food Babe! Continue doing what you’re doing. In the end truth always wins! You are so brave to continue fighting against these monsters, who are even more monstrous to be calling you names and discrediting you. You are helping me and SOOO many others live healthier lives!

    Go Food Babe!

    To Our Health!

  34. I am really excited that you are submitting the FOIA request and look forward to the results. The slander, the use of “science” as a marketing term, and the various lies are becoming very common in various industries and are tools to convince the gullible that they are intelligent simply by agreeing with the word “science”. Thank you for your great work, Vani. You are awesome!

  35. I love your spunk and your ability to stay relentless in the pursuit of healthy food. Monsanto and any other major company pushing their chemical laden food in the name of profit literally makes us sick. We are an obese and sick generation of people and it is only getting worse. Fortunately, we have someone like you to lead the charge for what is right regardless of the misinformation that major corporations state as fact. Any one with any understanding of nutrition can see through them and you help others seeking better health to find out why they are sick. Keep up the good work!!!

  36. Thanks to you, Food Babe, you have opened many eyes to the danger of Monsanto to our food and water supply. Of course, the scientist is being paid to say what he says. He has sold his soul to Monsanto. We need more people like Food Babe, who do their homework, and pass this information on to others. All information, if one takes the time to look, can be documented.

  37. So what’s next? HOW CAN WE HELP YOU DISMISS these false allegations??? What are you going to do? This is criminal! If we all sent you $10.00 you could hire a lawyer and display the facts and get this on the evening news! The sooner the better. I am ready! Let’s do it…..the sooner the better.

  38. It never ceases to amaze me what lengths to discredit anyone who speaks the truth. This be it from Mike Adams, Natural News, Alex Jones or Vani. You don’t have to a scientist to see the difference with a clean diet with no preservatives and no GMOs or one that has ingredients you can’t even pronouce. All you can do is keep demanding that our food. We all have choices we can make one keeps us healthy and one is killing us or making us very sick. It is a shame that Monsanto has to go to these lengths. I, for one, look forward for Roundup being taken off the shelves. Thanks for all your hard work.

      1. Only a degenerate of minimal intelligence would have trouble pronouncing a simple two syllable word such as “heirloom”, which refers to a plant food that tends to be more nutritious—and delicious—than modern, overbred varieties. Once two syllable words are mastered, you can go on to words like OR-GAN-IC.

      2. I was referring to preservatives not heirloom. If you read my comment you would know what I was referring to.

    1. I agree w/you Galeesha. It’s sick what big companies like MON will do for greediness over truth! Vani, keep up the great work you are doing to inform and educate those who are in the dark about real, wholesome food. You have my support! I banned all Monsanto products years ago and will not give a single dollar to any of their products!

  39. This professor is a joke and should be barred from education. Having a degree or certification by no means qualifies one as an expert.

As a part of the scientific community myself, this guy has no idea what he’s talking about and is absurdly confused about science itself is. It’s also well known that universities are PAID to prove specific things right, this is far different than a true experiment where you’re testing a hypothesis. Its pure revenue generation for them.

There is no independent 3rd party study here regardless. It is a well known fact that Monsanto’s studies are NOT scientific (this has been argued and shown since the 90’s), 3rd parties cannot reproduce their results, the sample sizes are not large enough, the controls have been shown to have been corrupted, and the time period is far too short for anyone versed in biology to sign off on the findings, where is the 5 or 10 year and generational accompaniments? There are none. Until you see independent 3rd party studies that include at least a five year and multi generational component do not eat this stuff!

  40. I see nothing damaging said by Kevin Folta in regards to you or the money for his outreach programme. If you choose to be in the public domain then stop acting like a child and grow up. Sounds more like sour organic grapes to me, Vani.

    1. Looks like you know a thing or two about sour grapes, Kathy!
Your denial is false. Nothing damaging said by Folta? Maybe that’s a matter of opinion, but most of us can see that he blatantly slandered her and was caught red-handed with dirty Monsanto money that he denied to have received.
Also, to call Vani childish is, in this case, not only false, but, frankly, childish. There is a difference between being a sore loser and truthfully defending your reputation when it has been attacked by greedy liars.
Shame on you, “Kathy”, shame on Kevin Folta, shame on anyone at UF who knowingly allowed this to happen, and shame on the greedy who profit at the expense of people’s health, whether they know it or deny themselves from knowing the damage that they do.

      1. Well said…this guy has pretended to be 3rd party and completely independent – LIE

He attacked based on the fact of not science but being on the take and being a spokesperson for Monsanto – SCIENCE has nothing to do with it

He is a disgrace to the scientific community, he is a ” scientist for hire”

    2. Comparing someone to a dog is damaging, hurtful and unprofessional. Keep speaking that truth sista Vani!

    3. The story about his payola made the front page of the New York Times above the fold. I guess they don’t think it is a childish issue.

      1. But the NYT article is also talking about the Organic Industry, which also paid public scientists to talk at events. Have you read the part about Chuck Benbrook? Kevin Folta’s wrongdoings are nothing against Chuck Benbrook’s. I love Food Babe, but in thais case she is terribly off. I don’t like her placing a FOIA request, it is going to cost the tax payer a lot of money, she is not going to find anything and in the long run scientists are not going to talk to the public anymore. Truth is, with the FOIA request they did not find the big bomb, but started a smear campaign anyways. My fear is, that in the long run the organic industry is going to suffer under stories like that.

    4. Really Kathy? When there is Folta out there being paid by Monsanto to discredit and lie about The Food Babe in the name of science and objectivity, he shouldn’t be exposed? Yet is is fine for him to do all the misinformation he pleases without accountability? Whose paying you?

    5. Shut up Kathy! She’s right. Crap that is allowed in our food that they have been doing for years without our consent is killing us! You used to hardly ever hear of cancer in children, these days they are born with it. I could count on one hand how many people I knew that had cancer when I was younger and these days I need a tally counter to keep up with them all! So, if you think you are going to come in here and tell Vani to shut up when she is the one trying to stop all this madness I got news for you… YOU need to shut the hell up! If you don’t like what she’s saying, GET OFF HER PAGE AND TROLL SOMEWHERE ELSE! Maybe someone will give a damn about your opinion there.

  41. I am so proud of you for staying true to your cause.
Thank you for helping us stay healthy.
God Bless you and stay healthy and safe yourself.

    1. Amen! Vani Hari is a blessing. We will no longer be fooled by BIG FOOD. I, and lots of people I know, now read EVERY label before I purchase ANY item. I make the healthier choices thanks to her.
