Turmeric Cooler – The Juice That Can Save You From Buying Advil

...by Food Babe

When I found this organic turmeric at the grocery store the other day, I squealed like a little pig!

That’s because this is probably the most powerful root on the planet and just the thought incorporating it even more in my diet is a dream come true.

I knew the first thing I wanted to do with the turmeric was kiss it… haha, just kidding.

Actually, I wanted to make juice!

Turmeric is super powerful at reducing inflammation in the body naturally – without drugs – i.e. Advil, etc.

Did you know that the inactive ingredients in different forms of Advil include artifical food coloring made from petroleum, artificial sugars, sodium benzoate, GMO’s, propylene glycol (the stuff used in anti-freeze for your car) and parabens?

Sawadee ka from Thailand!
Drinking Juice In Thailand
Drinking fresh raw organic vegetable juice is one of the fastest and easiest ways to stay in tip top shape while vacationing and just happens to be one of the best ways to Eat With Your Dollars. It’s something I do no matter where I am in the world (including here in Thailand) and do back home almost daily. And just so you know, I’m not talking about opening a can of “V8” or buying a ready made juice like “Naked” that has been pasteurized. To continue reading click here

Spring is the air and dandelion greens are plentiful.  Dandelion greens are AMAZING for detoxing and beautifying your body from the inside out.  Most people think dandelion is just a weed that grows beautiful yellow and white flours but they actually are one of the most healing greens you can buy. Dandelion is proven to reduce swelling, bloating and stimulate the digestive system to release toxins. You can say bye bye to water retention after travel, a heavily salted meal or eating too much.

Mmmm…Cookies

Good Evening!

Here’s my a short recap of my Monday eats…What did you have?

Started the day with Habit #1, followed by some Vitamineral Greens and a kick a$$ kettlebell workout.  My workout had a little extra Ooomph thanks to new music on my iPod – my heart rate monitor is still not working.  ARGH.

I drank about 20 ounces of freshly pressed green juice – broccoli stems included!  The broccoli made this juice super strong – but I’m tough, I can drink any juice now! Ohhhh yeah.

After the juice about half and hour later, I drank some protein powder mixed with chia seeds.  I usually soak my chia seeds for at least 10 minutes before drinking them (in case you were wondering….)

I had a lunch date at Luna’s Living Kitchen with one of my favorite people – Meredith Campbell (aka the best fitness instructor EVER)!  If you haven’t taken one of her classes at the Y yet – find her schedule now and take her class. Everything she teaches is with pure enthusiasm and spunk – you’ll never feel like you are working out with Meredith in the room. SHE IS A ROCK STAR, I tell ya. Oh and she’s starting a blog.  I. Cannot. Wait.

We shared an appetizer of three different kinds of hummus – Lemon Parsley, Chipotle, and Curry. It was paired with cranberry walnut bread (MY FAVORITE PART), and some raw veggies.

IMG 0192

For my main course, I had my all time favorite – The Skinny Witch – a veggie burger made with quinoa and kamut, topped with local pickles, and wrapped in a collard leaf. The pickles make this so freaking good.  I’ve started to include pickles in my collard wraps at home that I make with my beet sweetened hummus – Try it, and you’ll never want it any other way!

At home between errands – I had a big bowl of candy aka figs stuffed with walnuts.

Later, I enjoyed an acupuncture treatment…

For dinner and dessert – it was a repeat of yesterday plus a big side of raw broccoli…

To end the night – I made 2 Hari Shakes …. (I drank one at work today) – It’s nice starting the day and ending the day with Habit #4.

I’m off to eat a bunch of Pizza & Cookies…You probably think I’m lying, but I’m not.

Hasta La Vista Baby,

Habits for the New Year and Beyond – #4 Drink a Green Drink Every Single Day

...by Food Babe

Happy New Year’s Eve!  Are you getting ready to party?! Staying in?! Or sleeping, perhaps?  Have you come up with your New Year’s resolutions yet or not coming up with them at all?  I have mine ready for the first time in many years!

Hope you’ve enjoyed, Habit #1Habit #2 and Habit #3 to adopt for the New Year and Beyond….

On to the next one…

Habit #4 – Drink a Green Drink Every Single Day…

Consuming green drinks is the best way to get greens in your diet, provide your body a rich source of chlorophyl on a daily basis, and ultimately is one of the key actions you can take to keep your body in an alkaline state to avoid disease.

Recently I was asked about my opinion on green juicing vs. blending and if I thought one was better than the other. I think they are both important in one’s quest for wellness and vitality. I drink both types of green drinks for different reasons. I drink juice to deliver as many nutrients to my body as possible at once and I drink green smoothies for the beneficial fiber. As long as you chew your green drinks your body will be able to digest and receive the benefits. Don’t just slam down a smoothie or juice – you need that chewing action for digestive enzymes to do their magic.

With that said, drinking green drinks is simple…

It can be small like a wheatgrass shot….

A little more diverse like a fresh green juice -

Or it can be a green smoothie the size of your head!

You decide.  Easy right?

Make your 2012 green every single day!…No excuses!

Cheers!
