Instead of putting up a fight today – I’m gonna join the US Congress in their recent declaration – Pizza is a Vegetable!
This statement becomes completely true, when you start off with a “flour free” whole foods crust like a sprouted grain tortilla and load a big bowl of vegetables on top.
I have a feeling this pizza will become a staple in your household, like it has mine. The freshness in taste goes beyond any frozen pizza could ever deliver. When I suggest one of these pizzas to my husband for dinner, I usually hear a big “OH YEAH!” come out of his mouth. When I make this for other family members or friends, they immediately request the recipe.
This recipe will bring upon cheers from your loved ones, friends and family! They will all LOVE it.
- 1 Ezekiel sprouted wheat tortilla
- 4 tablespoons of tomato/pizza sauce
- 1 garlic clove minced
- ¼ cup onions chopped
- ¼ cup green peppers chopped
- ¼ cup broccoli chopped
- 5 black olives sliced
- 1 ounce of organic mozzarella cheese (Optional)
- ½ ounce of raw parmesan cheese (Optional)
- crushed red pepper for sprinkling
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees
- Place thawed tortilla on large pan and place in oven – 3-4 mins to allow crust to harden a bit
- Once tortilla has started to slightly crisp on edges, remove from oven
- Place sauce and garlic on crust first
- Then top with suggested toppings or other toppings, being careful not to overload the crust
- Next place cheese on top (Optional)
- Cook for 10 mins or until cheese is bubbly
Are you vegan?….No cheese leaves more room for veggies and still creates an equally delicious and satisfying pizza.
Want to keep it light? Just use a little bit of cheese…
Or you can go all out…. and make it super cheesy!

You can use (vegan) Daya Cheese?
I personally have never bought daiya cheese ever – so I don’t know from experience, but I’m almost positive it would work!
I use sliced steamed sweet potatoes instead of Daiya cheese. A friend of mine uses loads of sauted mushrooms instead of cheese. To faux cheese never melt like cheese and never tastes like cheese.

omg YES! We make pizza all the time with Daiya “cheese”; it even melts and stretches like real cheese (and the taste is even better than real cheese in my opinion). I recommend giving it a try.. it’s soooo savoury and delicious.
P.S. We also make our own gluten-free crust using a mix of rice and corn flour, just using basic recipes off the internet, for us glutfrees.

Is Daiya “cheese” healthy? Is it non-GMO? Is there anything bad in it or anything artificial?
Yes, Daiya cheese works! I recommend buying the blocks & shredding it yourself as opposed to the pre-shredded… and a mix of the cheddar and the havarti is my favorite.

This looks great! I’ve been dying to use my brown rice tortillas to make pizzas with! My man got some Whole Foods pizza for his superbowl feast and I got a mix of sweet potatoes, veg and bean salad. Perfection!
Hey Gillian – I heard from a gluten free friend yesterday that Food for Life brown rice tortillas turn out just as crispy for the recipe! Excited for you to try it! For Super Bowl, my man cooked up some farm fresh bratwurst and sauerkraut, while I had a big helping of avocado lentil salad. I made an artichoke kale dip for both of us to share and fig bars for dessert. Did you love the half time show, or what?! I don’t care how old Madonna gets, she will always have my heart!

Any reason in particular for the goat’s milk mozzarella? We get goat’s milk cheese from our farmer in our CSA but it’s usually more like a cream cheese, never mozzarella.
We are starting to send my toddler’s food into daycare with him (daycare provides the food, but as you can probably easily imagine, it’s not up to our ever-increasing whole foods/organic/local/preservative and dye free standards). In an effort to not make my little guy feel left out of the provided family-style meals, I’ll be mimicking the daycare chef’s menu. They have pizza a few times per month and I will be trying this recipe out in his lunchbox soon! Thanks for sharing!

I tried this last night and it was delicious! I made some for my 3 year old without veggies and he ate it up and asked for more! Since he’s not one who snacks on raw veggies, I made him apple, carrot and cilantro juice to go with it. This will definitely be a staple for our family. Thank you very, very much for everything on your blog. I have been wanting to cut out processed foods and didn’t know about Ezekial and raw cheese and the many yummy options for both adults and kids!
How about sliced fresh plum tomatoes, and some EVOO and seasonings (oregano, basil, pepper) in lieu of the pizza sauce? Also, I haven’t tried it, but I hear Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free Pizza crust mix is fantastic, and a great option for those who are gluten free.

I served it with carrots and cucumbers for them and they cleared their plates. I had mine with red and green peppers, mushrooms, and diced chicken that I had made the day before. YUMMY!!! There is a Gluten Free pizza crust i just discovered at a restaurant called “New Grains” and its made in Utah but you can purcchase it at Amazon either as a mix or pre-made crusts…Let me tell you, I ate the whole pizza. It was soooooo good. I have not had good tasting GF pizza crust in years…

This turned out pretty good. I thought the tortilla would crumble but it held up. I cut it into fourths like pizza. I added tomatoes and red peppers as well. Good stuff Vani!

Thank you, Food Babe for this delicious recipe. We made it for lunch today and this was the first time my 2.5 year-old son had pizza. He devoured it and I’m happy to let him have his veggie pizza weekly now, if he wants. He even said, “Thank you for the recipe”.
I can’t tell you how it made me feel to see my son eat ‘normal’ food (by our society’s standards) that was healthy and delicious. He can now have pizza at parties and daycare when needed.

One day I will find a gluten free, plant strong crust that is either easy to make or easy to find! For now, I use Schar crusts on occasions as a splurge or do without!
I already posted this below but I was so excited to find an easy gluten-free option I want to spread the word! It’s literally chickpea flour, oil, and water. The only work is actually letting it sit for 30 minutes after you mix it but I highly recommend it. Thanks but as a plant strong vegan I do not consume oil (or excessive salt, refined sugar, or overly processed foods). There are plenty of vegan, gluten free options but not many that are also plant strong.

Vani, if people are looking to avoid animal proteins, you can also mix some nutritional yeast into a liquid (just add a little water or lemon juice), and add it as a topping instead of cheese — it’s the same stuff that makes cheesy kale chips taste so great.

My favorite gluten free vegan pizza crust option is called farinata, an age old italian flat bread. Best of all it takes nothing but chickpea flour, water, oil, then salt + pepper and herbs to taste. It’s so easy it’s hilarious, hilariously good. Try it!

Hey Vani these look so good but I’ve spent months transitioning into a now practically 100% gluten and dairy free diet. Can I ask your reasons for still eating these ingredients? I’m just quite new to all this and am constantly reading so much information and sometimes find myself confused as to what the right choices are :/ Of course GMO free & organic everything are a definite! 😀

Raw simply means not pasteurized. Some people believe that pasteurization leads to diminishing of essential healthy nutrients and enzymes in their food, and therefore choose to eat it in its natural, unpasteurized state. Hope that clears things up for you 🙂
I live in san francisco CA and I am not sure of any stores similar to Whole Foods that are just a little bit cheaper than Whole Foods. I am currently forced to going to Trader Joes since it is close where I live. Let me know guys. thanks

Olives…I’ve not been able to find organic and miss them terribly. How do I judge a clean olive if not organic?
My husband wanted to make sure that I would keep making this one! Here’s my variation with organic ingredients: leftover spaghetti sauce (made with diced red pepper, mushrooms and ground beef), sautéed sliced red onions, crushed garlic and kale as veggies, topped with cheese on hand: Gouda and pecorino Romano. 🙂 Thanks FoodBabe!!!

To Nancy Sue…I also am gluten intolerant. When I make my crust, I use cauliflower. There are mNy good recipes on the web. I’m sure you’ll be able to find one you like.

We make homemade pizza once a week…my husband is from Italy so it’s a must! I make my own dough and then freeze it in portions. Unfortunately, I can’t even eat it because I have an intolerance to dairy! I’ve tried making cauliflower crust MANY times and just never seem to get it right!

Frankenwheat most likely refers to non-sprouted wheat, or GMO wheat. Ezekiel wheat is made from 100% sprouted, real ingredients. Ezekiel is also organic. Food Babe mentions this in her post about breads.
