Environmentally Friendly Gifts by U-Konserve (Exclusive Discount)

When I was going into the office everyday, I used to lug a really heavy bag of glass containers that held my lunch and snacks (because I hate plastic!). Oh how I wish I would have known about this awesome company back then!

For a limited time, U-Konserve is offering the #FoodBabeArmy 10% off their entire site with code “FOODBABE”

I discovered U-Konserve recently at Expo East Natural Products Show where I got to touch, view (and take a couple of samples home). They make the most wonderful environmentally friendly gifts – especially for Mother’s Day coming up!

UKonserve

My favorite products are the lunch kits, produce bags (eliminating the need for all those bags at grocery store visit after visit!), stainless steel insulated coffee cups/food containers, and modern recycled cotton napkins. But the stainless steel containers take the cake, because they are light, easy to carry and leak proof. I just throw one in my purse when I’m on the go and don’t have to worry about a thing.

By purchasing and using U-Konserve you can:

  • Reduce Waste by eliminating disposable food packaging from our landfills and oceans
  • Save Money by reducing single-use packaging, and packaged foods
  • Eat Healthier by packing homemade, non-packaged foods
  • Store Safer by packing food in non-leaching, non-toxic containers (Containers are tested by independent labs to meet strict safety standards, all of our products are free of BPA, phthalates, PVC and lead.)
  • Promote Sustainability by giving gifts that send the message of reuse (many of their products are made with recycled material – even recycled cotton!)

Here’s the link to their store, hope you enjoy the 10% off with code: FOODBABE (And free shipping with orders over $50)

Happy Shopping!

Food Babe

P.S. If there is a product out there you’d like a discount on, let me know in the comments and I’ll get the Food Babe Team on it!

    1. Here is what they said. “Our products are designed in California, and responsibly made in China, India and Taiwan in facilities that are working toward green practices and supportive of our mission to reduce waste. We made considerable effort to keep production in the U.S., while still making our products affordable to a broad market, but we found it very difficult to compete with these countries in both quality and price. Sometimes it can be easier to find manufacturing overseas that conforms to stringent safety standards because many overseas companies support other countries (like Europe) that have far stricter regulations than the U.S.

Our recycled cotton (used in our Napkins, Go-to-Market Totes and Lunch Sacks) is made in India; all Stainless Steel Containers and Stainless Steel Bottles, Stainless Steel Accessories, Food Kozy®Wraps and Bags, Ice Cube Tray and Bamboo Utensils are made in China; and our recycled insulated fabric (used in our Insulated Lunch Sacks, Lunch Totes and Ice Packs) is made in Taiwan.”

  1. Food Babe thanks for all of your hard work! I love spreading the knowledge with my friends and family or anyone else who will listen! I would love a discount on Coastal Classic Creations make- up or Mountain Rose Herbs. Oh and do you know of a natural organic version of candy gum drops? I’m making a healthier version of a gingerbread house with my daughter. 🙂

    1. Megan – Thanks for your suggestions. I know Trader Joe’s has a “healthier” version available, I don’t think it’s organic, but it will do in this circumstance 🙂

  2. Thanks for all of your hard work Food Babe. I share the knowledge with friends, family and anyone willing to listen.

Oh and do you know of an organic or natural company that makes candy gumdrops? I’ll be making a healthier version of a gingerbread house with my daughter. 🙂

  3. THANKS so much for this post. I had never heard about this company before, but I took advantage of the discount. Thanks again!

  4. Any deals or recommendations on a dehydrator? I have been looking at the Excalibur and Sedona but they are both a little pricey. I don’t want to have to move trays and a timer would be nice (I sound lazy … maybe I should ask for someone to do it all for me too, while I’m at it. ha). Regardless, I love all of the information you share. Thanks for all you do.

    1. We have an Excalibur and it is worth every penny. We dried Gravenstein apples (an old variety that doesn’t ship or store well) only available in California (and maybe a few in Oregon). To be able to eat these all year or bake with them out of season is priceless. If you have a garden or fruit trees you can pay for this dehydrator very quickly, especially if you share it with friends or relatives. The times listed in the manual for drying the apples was right on and also for the jerky that my husband made. The “law” says not to dry meat, that is why they put all those horrible chemicals in commercial products. We keep our jerky in the refrigerator to be safe. I know a woman who cannot eat restaurant meat so when she travels she takes cooked meat that she has dehydrated.

  5. I would love a discount on honey, and another tea discount. Thank you. I would also like there to be a Whole Foods gift card giveaway. 🙂

    1. Please support your local beekeeper if you are lucky enough to find one. All of this hoopla over almond milk has devastated the beekeepers who must overmanipulate the hives and ship them hundreds of miles each year. They must be fed sugar water in the winter (often corn syrup is used) so they don’t die.

  6. I send leftovers everyday with my husband and he reheats in a microwave, I know these aren’t microwave safe. Are there any other options besides plastic or heavy glass containers?
    Thanks!

      1. That doesn’t seem practical for working people that need to heat food hours later, so what is the next best option to use a microwave?

    1. I have a lunch crock by Crock Pot that I use everyday at work to heat up my lunch. It is the coolest thing ever. I take leftovers or I make soup ahead of time and freeze it and even frozen solid within two hours of being in the lunch crock it is piping hot and ready to eat.

  7. Vani, these look amazing but I have one question, about the stainless steel: is there any danger with eating or drinking out of these types of things, with regards to heavy metals/chelation? In other words will it be safe for our food without contamination? I always wonder about this with coffee thermos type stuff too. I assume since you have it on here it’s safe, but just curious. thanks so much for all you do! You’re strength and determination is unwavering and serving us all!

  8. This is awesome! You posted this at just the right time. I’m definitely going to purchase from them since I’ll be needing a new lunchbox for the Spring semester. Thanks, Food Babe!

  9. Awesome! Ordering some produce bags!!! I’d love to see discounts on the Green Vibrance and Vitaminerals that you recommend!

  10. These look awesome! I do still lug a 1-gallon glass jar of purified water to work everyday, but these would alleviate the extra weight of my own glass containers. I guess that’s my morning workout right now?? 🙂

One company I absolutely love is http://www.realpurity.com and their cosmetics line. Natural deodorant, makeup, personal care products. Their “healthy glow” foundation is incredible! Not necessarily asking for a group discount, since I enjoy supporting their efforts monetarily, but maybe a post on them or similar natural makeup alternatives? I feel like most people know they should be eating healthy, but yet are oblivious to the toxic chemicals they slather on their skin daily. The aluminum, phosphates, parabens, etc. etc. I even had one friend vehemently deny that anything like that actually gets absorbed through the skin into her body. Umm … help!

    1. Guess what happens when you scrape your underarm raw every day and spray or roll on chemicals?

  11. I still vote for Pyrex. Its glass and you can reheat in microwave at work for lunches. Also Pyrex is made in USA!! No matter what “responsible practices” are used in China to make these, its still taking American Citizens jobs away. We need to get our manufacturing back and save our country. If anyone is interested watch Death by China on Netflix, its an eye opener…
You can get a whole set of Pyrex storage containers with lids on amazon for about $20, made in USA!!

    1. I totally agree with Christie. Are these new containers considered “Free Trade”? My sister was just in China and was required to wear a mask.

    2. I agree that we need to seek out and support products made in the USA, i.e. Pyrex and Anchor Hocking glassware. Amazon needs to promote American-made items (or at least identify country of origin in all their product descriptions) and they need to include that as a filter in searches. I’ve made that suggestion to them and hope you will, too.

  12. We use the Pyrex to avoid the use of plastic. We also don’t use our microwave any longer not even to heat water or cook popcorn. I also use a small on person personal Crock-Pot it is aluminum-free for heating my food at work.

  13. FoodBabe you’re on a roll! Thanks for all you do. I share your blog with folks and hopefully they decide to make changes to their lives. It is an uphill battle. Folks are so used to processed “food” and other harmful stuff that they can’t even think being without it. Also there’s the mentality “everyone’s eating it, it can’t be that bad!” Small steps, that’s all we can ask for. Thanks again. Wishing you a Happy New Year.

    1. I totally agree JMC. To hear family members say that is so frustrating. I appreciate you FoodBabe and all the work you do to bring awareness. I have passed your site to all my clients. Keep up the great work.

  14. Hi food babe, I love what you stand for and all of your hard works have made a big impact on my health and the health of my love ones. I recently been using a lot of essential oils . Doterra is the brand I am currently using and it is pretty expensive. If you can get any discount on any of there products, I would greatly appreciated.

  15. I would love a discount to Spicely Organics. Non-GMO Project Verified and Certified Gluten Free organic spices. 🙂 Thanks for all that you do!!

  16. Life factory — they sell glass bottles with a sleeve and BPA free straw cap to go with — great product !!!

  17. I’d like to see a discount on the Omega juicer please. Unless the Hurom is better for juicing leafy greens! Thanks

  18. Hi Vani,
I really appreciate what you are doing and trying to educate the public. I am also very passionate about the subject of nutrition and my wife and I have become organic farmers in the process. We buy wild game from friends of mine that are hunters and buy strictly organic at the supermarkets. We have become so accustomed to eating non GMO foods that we suffer from stomach aches whenever we do go out to eat at restaurants. I have become so upset with the food system in the United States that I started a petition in South Carolina for mandatory labeling of GMOs. My petition can be found on MoveOn.org and I would be thrilled if you could sign it and help me to get more signatures. I think it is appalling that companies can make us all sick by selling their GMO poison to us and not having the integrity to label their products transparently. Thank you again for fighting for what is right and educating the public.

  19. They say BPA free but are they also BPS free? Many companies who claim BPA free substitute BPS instead, which is actually as bad as BPA. Your comment?

  20. Well, it’s certainly a start. But I do worry about the ultimate end life of all products. I think, when I’m done with this, where will it end up? Stainless steels not a problem, it’s easily recycled. It’s mostly the plastic sacks, lids. Lunch totes and bags, and the cloth (?) straps on all the lunch totes. These are not easily recycled and will eventually end up in a landfill. Lids are easily lost and/or broken – ending up in a landfill. The cloth and plastic bags will eventually tear or the liner will tear with use (I know, my lunch bag with liner is completely destroyed on the I side from 5+ years of packing meals!). Those damaged and destroyed plastic bags won’t even be good to donate to goodwill, or will be tossed upon sorting. I always try to think of products in terms of, “is this easily recycled?/Ultimately reusable forever” or “will this product biodegrade?” This seems especially I portent on light of our plastic islands, excessive overflowing landfills, trash barges, etc.

  21. Food Babe, this came just in time for me! I’ve been searching for these guys, thank you!

Do you happen to know if these containers are freezer safe?

    Stay healthy!
    Nadia

  22. I feel a though this site has lost its way. It used to be “whats in this” posts. Lately all there is is advertising. Perhaps the companies are worthy of a bigger slice of the cosumer pie but it all just screams make a buck to me.

    1. jen- You do realize Vani quit her full time job in the banking industry to do this full time, right? She can’t just become homeless! Obviously she needs to make money somehow if she wants to keep sharing this wonderful information with us.

  23. This recipe looks great! I’m so glad I found your website. I just saw your interview on CNN and the awareness you’re spreading is something dear to my heart for so many reasons. Keep up the good work!

  24. I’ve got pleasurable with, lead to I discovered what precisely I used to be searching for. You’ve finished my own several morning prolonged hunt! Goodness Bless you male. Have a very pleasant working day. Bye

  25. Purchased several items from U-konserve because Vani recommended them. I was sad when I received them to discover they are ALL made in China. They are going back, not fast enough. I try to avoid made in China anything, I wish I would have asked first.

  26. Hi Food Babe, really enjoyed your list of environmentally friendly gifts, we were actually looking for something like that. Everyone should buy products that keep their food safe and healthy while also reducing toxins leaking into the environment. I am impressed with the work you do, we are BIG fans, thanks!
I would also like to show you something we are promoting as green and socially responsible gifts for any occasion, I have a feeling you will also enjoy what we are promoting although it is not directly about food, I hope you see this and that maybe we can do something together in the future, who knows, maybe our CO2 free seal would be great for your page, anyway, here is the gift page: http://www.better-globe-trees.com/eco-gifts-green-gift-ideas.php
