Launching Subway Petition – They Will Finally Hear From Us, Loud and Clear

Join Me In Signing The Petition: Subway Stop Using Dangerous Chemicals In Your Bread!

StopUsingAzodicarbonamide

I have written about Subway several times – First in 2012, when I did an investigation into what exactly was in their famous low calorie and “fresh” sandwiches and then again last year when I did a deep dive into one of the most controversial ingredients used in their breads.

Not only has this company not responded, but they have ignored repeated requests by me and others to learn more about why they are using an ingredient banned all over the world. They have completely ignored us.

Then last week, Michelle Obama, The First Lady of The United States endorsed this company saying every single item on the kid’s menu met the “highest nutrition standards.

This is what broke the camels back.

Not only is the First Lady of the United States duped by this company, but millions of North Americans.

I knew I had to do something. With you.

This action is bigger than just one ingredient.  It’s about holding companies accountable for their hypocrisy and exploitation of Americans. It’s about waking up the world and telling them the truth.

Join me today – Read this petition, sign it & watch the short video and then share it with everyone you know.

We have power together to change the food system.

We’ve done it a few times now, and we are going to do it again.

Onward! Food Babe Army!

Thank You For Making Your Voice Heard,

Vani Hari

  1. It baffles my mind as to why Vani has to do the job our FDA is chartered to do, thank god she is doing it. Thanks so much Vani for the great work you are doing to bring true healthy eating to the forefront of everyone’s thoughts.

  2. Way to go! Because of this website & your efforts ABC 7 new has announced that Subway is in ‘the process of removing the chemical from its bread.’ They say that they had already began to do this before the blog called attention to the problem but we all know they would have changed NOTHING if not for public pressure.

    1. Subway could have been changing their bread’s recipe before this petition was started, but because of this and the attention, Subway may have decided to announce it. A lot of companies change things without making a public deal about them.

  3. Good for you! Keep up the great work, we all deserve to understand the ingredients in our food. Preferably things that don’t also belong in my shoes.

  4. Vani, I just love you for what you are doing!!! Keep up the fantastic work! This is only the beginning, maybe one day we will live in a world where all food will be safe to eat!

  5. Ha, Local ABC news just announced Subway removing the nasty chemical.
Now let’s hope the First Lady saw this. On second thought, perhaps her people became aware of all the ruckus and “made a call”.
Anyhow, still won’t eat Subway – it’s horrible quality food – food?

Now – don’t know who your next victim is, but what about peanut butter? I was appalled to look at several name brands – the ones that moms buy – and see all the added crap and HFCS on the label. Really? I thought PB was ground peanuts, period.
It amazes me that the “executives” of these companies feed this stuff to their own children …

    1. You do realize that ever item on the shelves in grocery stores has to have something in them to keep the lasting long enough to be sold. If you want straight up, 100% pure peanut butter that only contains peanuts, then make it yourself. While I do agree that there needs to be something done about the amount of chemicals that are in our foods, but I also realize that some are needed to keep food lasting long enough on the shelves and I also realize it will take time.

  6. What if they say that they will do it and never do it? Perhaps call it a different name but still keep it in the bread? Just wondering how deep corruption goes.

  7. What about sodium nitrate which is clearly linked though many REAL clinical and scientific studies to be linked to cancer in peer-reviewed literature? Subway is not ‘fresh’ in that nearly all of their meats contain sodium nitrate which does demonstrate a serious cancer risk. This is not hearsay or quack-based, but backed by stacks of research. It’s time to target sodium nitrate as well.

  8. Attn: foodbabe,

I hope you are able to find the lost post of mine that didn’t post.

Regardless I’ve a copy that I can post on Naturalnews & other sites showing people peaceful actions they can take to save money & stop funding evil creeps.

I do this for free because I like too.

    Thank you.

  9. I just heard of you lately. Wrote Subway with Scientific back up to the reasons. And a threat to mobilize a whole college town (not that hard) have been disturbed for about six months since I found out about this stuff.

We win . Well done. Great Warrior Woman.

  10. You say that this chemical is found in Sara Lee, McDonalds, Wendys, Arbys and Starbucks yet you petition only Subway because they advertise their sandwiches as “fresh”? Sounds to me that you’re more interested in “truth in advertising” than anything else! What about those other companies?

    1. And it’s also an additive I’m flour and cereal products, so even if you swear off commercially produced bread all together, you’re likely still getting it from other sources.

      1. Some of these posts crack me up. The government’s poisoning us,,,, blah blah blah. Thank you for saving us Vani,,,, blah blah blah.
Newsflash: People are NOT dying from Subway sandwiches!!! In fact, average life expectancy is increasing here in the good ol’ USA!!!

  11. Start a North American wide movement where all patrons bring in their own bread to load up their fixings and then deduct the cost of Subways unhealthy bread from the price of the sub. Let the money saving, health attacking bread rot in their ovens and heaters. Stick it to them where they are going to feel it the most and make the biggest financial impact and a wake up call for Corporate to be responsible.. Ethocal. Or lose all ALL of their business. I know they have definitely lost mine. And anyone else’s who will read these posts!!!!!!

    1. Let me get this. YOU are no longer doing business with them, yet you want US to buy their “fixings” using our own bread????

    2. You do realize the bread is pretty much the cheapest item there right? Its not that expensive to get the bread, the expensive part is the meats, the cheese, the veggies, etc.

  12. If not Azodicarbonamide today, then other deadly agents tomorrow. The fascist Vatican mafia will never change. They are vectors of mass murder and theft. The only way to affect real change is to vote with your feet. Stop participating in their matrix of murder and theft and start boycotting them out of existence.

  13. It’s so wonderful that you succeeded!! I hope you look into the food dyes used in candies like skittles etc that those companies use here but not in Europe because they are banned. ADHD and all sorts of bad things are caused by them, whereas in Europe they use natural food coloring such as tumeric etc.

  14. Great work! Did you know that Subway’s slogan “eat fresh” depends on what one defines as fresh!!

    Did you know that their:
    – meat is precooked off site, packaged, shipped and reheated
-cold cuts are cut and stored off site
-tuna fish and chicken salad prepared and packaged off site
    -bread is not fresh

Let’s get them to define fresh!!

    1. Have you ever worked for a Subway before? I have, I worked for Subway for many years. Yes, the meats are cooked offsite and some locations receive pre-sliced meats while some Subways had their own slicers, it was a decision made by the person who owned that particular franchise. As for the Tuna fish and Chicken Salad, we made that in store, everyday, multiple times a day. We received the Tuna and Chicken the same way you would buy it at the store. and the bread, the bread is baked in house, its proofed and covered in the seasoning in house.

  15. I just saw on the news (Fox reporting this) that Subway is planning to remove the chemical from their bread. Have you had a response from them yet foodbabe?

  16. I applaud you Vani for your efforts in publicizing this information. I had no idea subway snuck this ingredient into their bread. Thankyou for your activism and keep up the good work.

  17. I have never been able to eat subway sandwiches. They always made me vomit after eating them. I told my husband that the bread tasted funny!!! This is probably what made me sick every time!!!

  18. Wow this was a big shock as I eat sub way often! To think what I have been putting in my body! Hope it changes soon! Won’t be eating it till then:(

  19. I’m not a customer of Subway but there is no excuse for not using all natural ingredients in their bread. Now I wish all bread makers would eliminate DATEM (diacetyl tartaric acid ester of mono- and diglycerides, also E472e) from their recipes.

  20. I will boycott Subway until I know that they are not using the additive. Being in the process of removing it is not good enough. And being defiant that people cannot influence them to do good may make me boycott them for life.

Our FDA can be bought. Don’t kid yourself. They’re no different than the politicians.

Only the people using the internet and votes can make this country great again.

  21. Thank you for getting this petition going. I like Subway but had no idea until you brought this information out. I have started making my own bread at home. Noe that Subway is changing their ingredients I will go back. Too bad the USDA can’t get their act together and have our best interest in mind when these chemicals are added to our food!!

  22. I know this might seem odd, but it’s not just subway, it’s in 90% of all bread and pastry products sold epically Mcdonalds and Burger King. Are they going to be ratted out too? I hope so there is a lot of chemicals in our food sold by popular companies that need the whistle blown on.

  23. This is a good step, now let’s get it out of the bread at the grocery store. Almost all the brands at my local stores have this in it.

  24. THANK YOU VANI….. It sickens me that the FDA is so corrupt that we can’t trust them. We are all so fortunate to have warriors like you to stand up to the corporations and the FDA. KEEP IT UP

  25. Any Subway I’ve ever walked into had a strong, off-putting chemical odor that mingled with the smell of baking bread. Maybe it was the azodicarbonamide, but whatever it was, I was astonished to see that people would eat there anyway. I guess they either couldn’t smell it or didn’t care.

  26. Thank you for starting this petition! I was so happy to see it this morning. I think food not only matters but is essential part of our lives and I am very excited to be playing my part in the movement for improving food quality in the US. I was so inspired by your petition that I even wrote a blog post about it and wanted to share. Thanks for starting it and I am so happy many people are joining the movement!

  27. Did you know that WATER is used in pesticides? And in laundry detergent?

I think you need to start a petition to demand food companies stop using this dangerous ingredient in foods.

    Morons.

  28. Shouldn’t it have been a petition for the FDA to look into banning it? So Subway changes their recipe (which they were already in the process of doing anyway), it’s still being used by everybody else in the U.S.

  29. Take a science class before you slander companies. I can’t for the life of me believe Subway capitulated to your ignorant unscientific arguement supported by a list of other non-scientists.

  30. Outstanding job Vani! I first heard of you on Alex Jones just 2 days ago and I immediately logged on and signed your petition. I then emailed it to a very large number of people on my email lists.

Now this morning I go on Drudgereport.com and your the top link on the left column out of USA Today showing that Subway capitulated immediately to your petition!

That’s gotta be the fastest (a world record) for forcing a company to stop doing something by way of petition.

I listen to Alex every day, and I have to say you were impressive and with the huge number of listeners Infowars has, I’m sure that was indeed a huge boost to the success of your petition.

Keep it up and I hope Alex has you one once a month or so for further updates on any other findings you are working on.

May I suggest you use this huge success and momentum to immediately start a petition for fight again Aspartame???? That’s another huge chemical weapon being used against us in damn near everything we eat and drink.

Also, maybe you could use your new fame to bring more light on all the nasty Fluoride being put in America’s drinking water systems. I’m sure Alex would love you to join Infowars in that because he’s been one of the biggest opponents to Fluoride in drinking water, as well as a huge proponent of water filtration systems.

I have been using the ProPur system for 3 years now because of what I learned from Infowars.

Anyways…congratulation again! You should be extremely proud of this one…I think it’s a huge victory. Now how about that so-called “meat” that Subway uses? hahahaha 😉

  31. Subway was already in the process of removing this ingredient, and in fact had already completed the transition with their flatbread late last year. Since they had already begun the process last year, PRIOR to this sites initiative, it seems clear that (a) they should be commended for taking this action even before the public knew about it and (b) this site shouldn’t be taking credit for something that was started long before this blogger mentioned the situation.

  32. Since Subway makes their own bread on demand, they clearly don’t need extra preservatives. However, for my own sandwiches I use a brand of bread that does not have brominated flour. This is partially due to personal taste (it’s an upscale brand) and the fact that a family member is sensitive to brominated flour.

Subway should do whatever they can to improve their product and their reputation. They should not be content with whatever barest minimum they can manage to get away with.

  33. You should publish that Azodicarbonamide maybe in the bread purchased at the store. And in Mc’D’s buns!

  34. FANTASTIC JOB!!! I don’t eat there because of their bread and poor quality meats. However, the bread was my #1 reason for not eating at Subway. Thank you for your hard work!!

  35. So why are you not going after all the other restaurants that serve the same ingredient in their bread. McDonalds to name the #1. Hate to see one business singled out.

    1. Thanks forall the help. I have been following you and the ways get the chemicals out of my diet. You’re getting me on the right track. It’s amazing how good Ifeel once I started cleaning up my body. It’s also amazing how my taste buds have changed. The real food taste amazing. I watch everything I put in my mouth and on my body. When I started paying attention to all the chemicals, it’s not wonder America is getting so sick.

  36. Although I think it is awesome that this petition was started and worked, Subway is not alone. If you go in to any grocery store and read the ingredients off the bread they stock on the shelves, you will find this chemical in 90% of the bread products. I hope that others will soon follow suit and leave this chemical in the floor mats where it belongs.

  37. Maybe the next step we can do is to get rid of their “Olive oil blend” dressing. Its 90% CANOLA OIL and 10% olive oil. Eat Fresh hmmm…

    1. Canola destroyed my health. I really think it is one of the worst ingredients made… organic, non-gmo, or gmo… doesn’t matter. Canola is highly TOXIC.

      1. Sorry should have said “one of the ingredients that destroyed my health.” It was not just canola but all inflammatory “heart healthy” vegetable oils like canola, soy, cottonseed, and corn. They cause major gut issues. Canola is the “Subway” of oils because it PRETENDS to be healthy and a great alternative but in reality it is very toxic. Google “Canola is bad for you” and read different perspectives.
